BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 68, Chapter 15, is amended by adding the following language as a new, appropriately designated section: § 68-15-201. (a) As used in this section, unless the context clearly requires otherwise, (1) "Bedding" means any mattress, mattress pad, mattress protector pad, box spring, upholstered spring, upholstered sofa bed, quilted pad, comforter, bolster, cushion, pillow, featherbed, sleeping bag, or any other bag, case, or covering that is: (A) Made of leather, textile, or other material; (B) Stuffed or filled with any soft material or substance; and (C) Designed or made for sleeping or reclining purposes, or designed or made to be an integral part of a bed or couch or other device used for sleeping or reclining purposes. (2) "Filling material" means: HB1303 00239049 -1- (A) Hair, (B) Down, (C) Feathers, (D) Wool, (E) Cotton, (F) Kapok, (G) Plant fibers, or (H) Any other soft material used in the manufacture of and the filling or stuffing of articles of bedding. Polyurethane foam and polyester fiber remain the industry stand- ards, yet the variety of choices that exist within these two options create a decision-making process that is significantly more complex. KEY PARAMETERS IN CHOOSING POLYURETHANE FOAM1,2,3 Polyurethane foam has long been a staple of the cushion industry. Its excellent performance over extended use coupled with a variety of types that can be tailored to specific applications allow retailers to customize their offerings to individual markets. When discussing the material in terms of outdoor performance, there are a few characteristics that require some consideration. All flexible polyurethane foams have an open cellular structure which, when applied in an outdoor setting, means that moisture can penetrate the body of the foam. A duvet cover can be constructed using a decorative fab- ric that will require dry cleaning or a washable fabric that can be thrown in a standard washer and dryer for cleaning. A duvet cover can be easily changed to meet the desired décor. (Hint: If you plan to wash your bedding, choose only washable fabrics.) Duvet covers do not require measuring.
