This is of course Fdue to the extraordinary strictures that have been imposed following the coronavirus and Covid-19 pandemic. The ‘lockdown’ announced on 23 March urged us all to stay at home with the public only allowed to go out once a day to do one of a handful of activities: to exercise, buy food; get medical necessi- ties, provide care or to help a vulnerable person, and to undertake essential work such as the NHS workers and the police. Most importantly, many people in the area will be suffering. As well as keep- ing an eye on television and listening to the radio, those with internet access can look out for mutual support groups on Social Media. Islington’s Facebook group is called Islington COVID 19 Mutual Aid, the City’s is City of Lon- don Covid 19 Mutual Aid and there is Camden COVID-19 Mutual Aid. The three councils in the area – Isling- ton, Camden and the City of London – have extensive advice on their websites, aimed at containing the virus. At present, the advice includes: • to shop for basic essentials • to do one form of exercise a day • visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person • to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary Stay at home if you have either: • a temperature • a new, continuous cough To protect others, do not go to places like a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

It includes 682 buildings and sites known to be at risk from Tneglect, decay or inappropriate development - everything from an early 18th century church designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor, to a boathouse built during WWI on an island in the Thames. These are sites that need imagination and investment. In London the scale of this challenge has grown. There are 12 more assets on the Heritage at Risk Register this year compared to 2015. We also know that it’s becoming more expensive to repair many of our buildings at risk. In the face of these challenges we’re grateful for the help and support of all those who continue to champion our historic environment.

  • This 2008 Letter
The Most Reverend and Right Hon the Lord Archbishop of Canterbury & The Most Reverend and Right Hon the Lord Archbishop of York July, 2008 Most Reverend Fathers in God, We write as bishops, priests and deacons of the Provinces of Canterbury and York, who have sought, by God’s grace, in our various ministries, to celebrate the Sacraments and preach the Word faithfully; to form, nurture and catechise new Christians; to pastor the people of God entrusted to our care; and, through the work of our dioceses, parishes and institutions, to build up the Kingdom and to further God’s mission to the world in this land. Our theological convictions, grounded in obedience to Scripture and Tradition, and attentive to the need to discern the mind of the whole Church Catholic in matters touching on Faith and Order, lead us to doubt the sacramental ministry of those women ordained to the priesthood by the Church of England since 1994. Having said that, we have engaged with the life of the Church of England in a myriad of ways, nationally and locally, and have made sincere efforts to work courteously and carefully with those with whom we disagree. In the midst of this disagreement over Holy Order, we have, we believe, borne particular witness to the cause of Christian unity, and to the imperative of Our Lord’s command that ‘all may be one.’ We include those who have given many years service to the Church in the ordained ministry, and others who are very newly ordained. We believe that we demonstrate the vitality of the tradition which we represent and which has formed us in our discipleship and ministry – a tradition which, we believe, constitutes an essential and invaluable part of the life and character of the Church of England, without which it would be deeply impoverished.

  • Delegated Oversight in London
https://livingchurch.org/2018/07/12/a-church-for-the-church-and-the-new-london-plan/ Delegated Oversight in London July 12, 2018 By Colin Podmore On the last day of June — a glorious summer Saturday — the Rt. Rev. Jonathan Baker, Bishop of Fulham (a suffragan in the Diocese of London), ordained two men in their early 30s to the diaconate at the church of Our Most Holy Redeemer in Clerkenwell, one to serve there and the other in a parish in outer West London. In many ways it was an ordination like so many others: a packed church; 40 robed clergy; rousing hymns; the now familiar 2005 Common Worship ordination rite; Byrd’s Five Part Mass and anthems by Palestrina and Vaughan Williams; songs by the choir of the Parochial School (one quarter of England’s state-funded primary schools, educating children ages 5 to 11, are Church of England schools); prosecco afterwards in the hall and courtyard — followed for many by a late lunch. There were moving moments, as when the ordinands prostrated themselves for the Litany of the Saints, and moments of suspense: would the very small boy in cassock and cotta, struggling to hold the bishop’s enormous gold mitre, fully half as tall as himself, manage not to drop it? But however much it was like many other ordinations, this service was also novel and significant. For a quarter of a century, the last two bishops of London had ordained all of the diocese’s deacons in St Paul’s Cathedral but none of its priests: that arrangement could not survive the appointment of a woman as bishop.
