Serves students K through 12. The school district encompasses the Philipsburg-Osceola area, including Rush Township, Decatur Township, Boggs Township, Wallaceton Borough, West Decatur, Chester Hill, North Philipsburg, and South Philipsburg. West Branch Area School District

West Branch of the Susquehanna River Good trip for overnight stays. Lots of history follows this river. It is a good beginning trip.

Due to our close proximity to State College and the Penn State University, Moshannon Valley residents are able to enjoy the many cultural, social, athletic, and educational activities available at Penn State. Listed below are just a few.

Ag Progress Days – Penn State University Three-day agricultural educational event. Sponsored by the College of Agriculture of Penn State. Call (814) 865-2081 for information.

Anthropology Museum Located in the basement of Sparks Building on campus, this museum contains relics from other cultures including ancient cultures from Northern America and Mexico, as well as this area. It also includes modern items from cultures in Afghanistan. Contact museum for hours @ 865-3853.

Bellefonte Historical Railroad A non-profit, all volunteer organization; operates a Rail Diesel Car in excursion service over some 40 miles of track in the heart of Centre County. Trains depart each weekend afternoon from Memorial Day through the end of September from Bellefonte’s handsomely restored Railroad station. Special runs, such as fall foliage cruises, Christmas outings, and rail fan trips are made year-round. Charters are also available. For specific information, phone (814) 355-0311.

Boalsburg Located 4 miles Southeast of State College, just off Route 322 this typical American village was settled by the Scotch-Irish in 1806. Boalsburg is the birthplace of Memorial Day, having been celebrated continually since 1864. The Boalsburg Village Conservancy has published a booklet, which deals with Boalsburg’s claim to the birthplace of Memorial Day and contains a self-guided walking tour of the village. Happy Valley Vineyard & Winery Happy Valley Vineyard was established in 1999 with an initial three acres of vines on land initially settled for farming in the 1850's. The vineyard has more than tripled in size at 9.5 acres. The winery was built in the summer of 2010. Our gorgeous timber frame tasting room was completed in January of 2013. Wines can be purchased by the glass, the bottle, and case. Our patio is a great place to enjoy your favorite glass of Happy Valley in the summer months. The tasting room can also be rented out for events and parties year-round. We feature live music in the

Starr Hill Winery We are located just 1.2 mile from downtown Curwensville on Bailey Road. Come and have a tour of our Old World style Winery and enjoy tasting our Award Winning Wines!

Museum of Art Museum of Art with collections in American and European paintings, drawings, prints, and sculpture with some emphasis on Pennsylvania artists; Oriental ceramics, paintings, and prints; limited material in Ancient, African, and near Easter areas; ancient Peruvian ceramics; contemporary European and Japanese studio pottery; European posters from 1890 to 1390. The Permanent Collection is supplemented with six or eight contemporary and historical loan exhibitions each year. Call (814) 865-7627.

Penns Cave Nestled on a beautiful Pennsylvania farm, Penn’s Cave is American’s only all- water cavern. The 50-minute guided motorboat tour includes unusual, highly colored limestone formations such as the “Statue of Liberty” and “Niagara Falls” and a ride on Lake Nitanee. Other attractions include airplane rides and picnic shelters. The new visitor center contains a restaurant and a unique gift shop featuring local gifts and antiques. Pennsylvania Military Museum – 28th Division Shrine The Pennsylvania Military Museum, through its collections and exhibits, preserves the records of Pennsylvania’s participation and involvement in the nation’s wars. The museum has an extensive and varied group of weapons, uniforms, and other accouterments of soldiers of the last two centuries. The 28th Division Shrine commemorates the achievements and sacrifices of the men of American’s oldest army division of modern composition. Please call (814) 466-6263 for more information.

Central PA Festival of the Arts The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is an annual celebration of the visual, performing, and with artists from across the country and five performing art stages with events for all ages to enjoy. Indoor exhibitions feature photography, crafts, and painting. All events are free and open to the public. For event dates call (814) 237-3682.

Centre County Historical Museum The Centre county Historical Museum is composed of over 1,500 items of historical value owned or manufactured by people of the county. Many families and individuals have been involved in building this collection. The museum is located on the second floor of the Centre County Library Building on North Allegheny Street in Bellefonte. Center for the Performing Arts-Penn State University The Center for the Performing Arts brings to the Penn State Campus the finest in the performing arts, including famous orchestras, international artists, Broadway musicals, dance and much more. Phone (814) 863-0255.

Eagle Iron Works The Eagle Iron Works was founded about 1810, and was in operation as late as 1921. The iron master’s mansion, as well as the old iron furnace, has been restored. The associated village became known as Curtin Village and is being restored.

The Penn State University Ice Pavilion The Penn State University Ice Pavilion is located in the Philip C. and Barbara M. Greenberg Indoor Sports Complex at the east end of the University Park Main Campus (corner of Pollock and McKean Roads). The Ice Pavilion, an auxiliary enterprise of the college of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, has two beautiful, year-round indoor ice skating surfaces, a lounge with a fireplace, excellent locker and shower facilities, a meeting and party room, a spectator seating area, and a mirrored studio rink. Ridge Soaring – Gliderport Ridge Soaring provides lessons, rentals, rides, and sales of gliders or motor less aircrafts. Ridge Soaring is located in the world famous Bald Eagle Ridge, Route 220, between Julian and Unionville. Many world and national records are held using the lift from this ridge.
