Planets

List of the primary aspects: The relationships between planets. (Ptolemy) Exact measurement Orb§§ General Description Aspect Symbol of separation. (acceptable margin of error) Most Harmonious. Both planets are Conjunction ☌ 0º Separated by less than 10º. energized. A major player in a birth chart. Most Disharmonious. Like Conjunction, Opposition ☍ 180º Separated by less than 10º. but emphasizes differences instead of similarities. Harmonious. Very beneficial. Trine 120º Separated by less than 10º. △ All M or all F. Disharmonious. Opposing genders. Outer Quartile 90º Separated by less than 10º. ☐ planet tends to dominate the inner. Harmonious. Like Trine, but less so. Sextile ✶ 60º Separated by less than 5º. All M or all F.

§§ The Orb is simply the margin of error allowed for the aspects. E.g. If the Sun and Saturn are 102º apart, they are not in quartile. But if they are 99º apart they are in quartile, because the orb is 10º for quartile. Anywhere between 80º and 100º will qualify as a quartile relationship. That's a lot of wiggle room. I have presented rather broad (mostly 10º) orbs, but different astrologers will often use more restricted orbs. Planets
