In 1944, The Keneder Adler both serialized his memoir, Fun Natsishen Yomertol: Zikhroynes fun a Polit (From the Nazi Vale of Tears: Memoirs of a Refugee) and printed it in book form. This study offers a snapshot of this rapidly changing community of 1944 through a close study of its newspaper, The Keneder Adler, including coverage of the liberation of the Nazi death camps, community responses, and new local community educational initiatives. Nearly 100 Jewish Day School Educators from 9 States Join ‘Hidden Sparks’ Program to Address Mental Health During Pandemic Nearly 100 Jewish educators from nine states came together to collaborate on developing their skills and toolboxes for creating positive and stable experiences for their students. Edited by: TJVNews.com The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a negative toll on so many aspects of everyday life, including the ongoing anxiety of students and teachers in the classrooms. Hidden Sparks, a nonprofit focusing on training teachers and providing them with the tools to support struggling students in mainstream Jewish day schools, recently convened a virtual conference to address this challenge. Nearly 100 Jewish educators from nine states came together to collaborate on developing their skills and toolboxes for creating positive and stable experiences for their students. Participating educators were able to choose from 11 lecture options that gave them tools in a variety of areas like topics like art therapy exercises in the classroom to teacher’s self-care and personal growth. Topics included Recognizing Anxiety in Myself and Others, Guided Relaxation Exercises, Building a Positive Psychological Toolbox and Personal Growth in Difficult Times, among others. Jewish Education Partner Schools Project
Jewish Education Partner Schools Project Begun in 2009, this Jewish day school partnership infuses Facing History’s content and pedagogy throughout the curriculum in day schools across the United States. At our Partner schools, Facing History’s program expands students’ exploration of their Jewish identity, deepens their historical understanding of modern Jewish history, and helps students make connections between Jewish texts and values and their own lives. These Partner schools are also members of Facing History’s Innovative Schools Network, made up of institutions around the world that embrace Facing History’s core themes as foundational to their schools’ mission. Evaluations show impact on whole-school culture in areas such as civic responsibility among students and cross-disciplinary work among teachers. To build on the success of this initiative, we will provide ongoing support in the following fundamental ways: By providing professional development for a core team of four educators at our summer seminar, Holocaust and Human Behavior for Educators in Jewish Settings. (All travel expenses, accommodations, and tuition fees will be provided at no charge to the school.) As partners on curriculum design, teaching strategies, and the identification of classroom resources As consultants for the creation of whole-school learning opportunities, such as special whole-school programs, parent events, and faculty in-services By fostering dialogue across disciplines By facilitating a community of practice among our network of educators to engage in dialogue and learning around related professional issues. Facing History’s Program Associate will provide up to 15 days of support to the school, including working with the school faculty liaison, supporting teachers individually and as a team, facilitating all-school events, and supporting integration across disciplines. -

MISSION At the hub of the Jewish community, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County strategically engages donors, supporters and community partners in addressing and planning for current and future needs of the Jewish people locally, in Israel and around the world. The Federation accomplishes these goals by: building Jewish community and developing Jewish communal leadership; promoting Jewish identity, education and engagement; caring for the vulnerable; advocating for the well-being and security of the Jewish people; and standing with Israel, their spiritual homeland. DEAR FEDERATION FAMILY: A Year to Celebrate. A Future to Imagine. In our 39th year of building this community and coming together to care for our people, we have never stood on more solid ground. With continued growth in our Annual Campaign and the Jacobson Jewish Community Foundation, as well as revenues from the development of Toby & Leon Cooperman Sinai Residences, our financial footing is firm and we are laying an ever-stronger foundation for the future of our sacred mission. Our 2017 Annual Campaign grew for the fifth year in a row, to more than $15.25 million in unrestricted contributions, as well as $527,000 in restricted income. Nearly $2 million was raised in new, increased and retrieved gifts.
