While remaining on the path of growth pursued in the last two years, we continue to make every effort to maintain, through our presence and market share, our status as a major player in the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry. Our long-term strategy is focused on sustainable growth based on the supply of up-to- date and effective medicines, and at the same time we are committed to making the knowledge and information necessary for preventing diseases as widely available as possible. The key aspects of our strategy and operation are innovation, effectiveness and compliance, which guarantee sustainable and long-term growth. We are constantly working to ensure that our business strategy reflects our responsi- bility with regard to society and sustainability. These values transcend our financial performance; an increasingly important role is played by factors such as the impact of our activity on the environment and on society, the confidence that doctors and patients have in our products, and the fact that we constantly provide our employees with opportunities for professional advancement. Our social impact extends to all areas in which stakeholders directly influence the operation of our company. Our financial data is consolidated at Group level; we publish these in our annual reports. A solid financial situation, and maintaining trust and credibility in our relationships with investors, are an important aspect of our operation. Other key elements are the research and development work, corporate governance, business ethics, risk management, compliance and transparency that support our long-term business success. Our global, multinational presence makes it important for us to also be competitive at international level. For our company, the most pressing business challenge of recent years has been our transformation into a specialised phar- maceutical company. Besides our women’s health products, we are strengthening our proprietary research port- folio in the field of the central nervous system, and we continue to devote considerable attention to the market for biopharmaceuticals. Richter’s ownership structure has not changed in comparison to previous years: it remains an independent, Hungarian-managed multinational corporation. The Hungarian management makes decisions in line with the corporate strategy approved by the Board of Directors and drawn up with the interests of both Richter and the domestic economy in mind. We have a presence in more than 100 countries around the world and are a leading global player in the women’s health sector. As a transparent, ethical company, our operation is characterised by significant CSR activity. We make committed efforts to ensure that our company, and thus society too, develops in a sustainable manner. During our operations, we aim to strike a balance between responsibility and competitiveness, thus creating value for our stakeholders. Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen! This may seem like an unconventional event, but it is in fact an event that marks the beginning of a new convention. The reason we have gathered here today is the signing of a Strategic Partnership Agreement. We are proud of this invention, because it is a part of the economic policy innovation with which, while adapting to the current European economic conditions, we have done our utmost to try and keep Hungary above water during the past two and a half years and help it to feel steady foundations beneath its feet. Agreements, as a genre, are of course not unknown in politics, nor in fact is it unknown within the relationship between politics and the economy. The current Government has, for instance, agreements with the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or for example with the National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers. These are agreements concluded with general economic interest representation groups. But the object of today's gathering is of a different character. The Hungarian Government does of course have various agreements with corporations that are competitive within a larger, international domain for concrete projects. Browsing just this morning's papers we might quote as an example the agreement with Gazprom, which was concluded jointly between Gazprom and a corporation that is owned by the Hungarian State, and concerns the fact that we will be building a 229km long pipeline and then operate it together.

    Are the new and old EU countries financially integrated?1 Tomas Dvorak Department of Economics Union College Schenectady, NY 12308 ChrisR.A.Geiregat Department of Economics Williams College Williamstown, MA 01267 Abstract During the last four years, the eight Eastern European countries that joined the EU in 2004 have made significant strides toward financial integration with the EU. Several pieces of evidence support this finding. First, yields on long-term sovereign bonds in accession countries have converged towards EU levels. This is true for both bonds denominated in local currency and bonds denominated in euro. Second, while the issuance of euro-denominated corporate bonds from accession countries is limited, yields on existing corporate bonds are in line with those in the old EU countries. Third, margins in the banking sector have narrowed, which is consistent with the integration of banking markets. Finally, we note that the current stock market rally is consistent with equity market integration.     Lajos Pillich 1913-2006 ANNUAL REPORT 2006 • GEDEON RICHTER 2 LAJOS PILLICH 1913-2006 In memoriam Lajos Pillich Lajos Pillich, the lifelong Honorary President of the Company passed away on November 22, 2006 at the age of 94 after having served the Company for 71 years. Initially employed by Mr Gedeon Richter, the Founder of the Company he was very soon appointed to a management position. He did not waiver throughout the storms of history and steered the Company through its difficult periods always giving an example of personal conviction and faith. His professional achievements and commitment were honoured with several prizes including a number of the highest level State awards. Following his retirement he remained actively involved in Company life initially as President of the Board of Directors and later as the lifelong Honorary President of the Company. As a key member of the 2001 centennial commemoration team he participated in the many centenary activities with the same levels of personal dedication and commitment as he had shown earlier in life. These included the establishment of a foundation which has as its aim the support of study by young talent both within Hungary and among Hungarians abroad. His parting leaves an irreplaceable loss for all those who had the chance to meet him and to work with him. His sense of humour, his intelligence and his humanity had become one of our greatest common assets. His memory will live for ever in our hearts.     A Snapshot of the Leading Hungarian Multinationals 2011 Report dated September 11, 2013 Budapest and New York, September 11, 2013 The ICEG European Center in Budapest, Hungary, and the Vale Columbia Center on Sustainable International Investment (VCC), a joint center of Columbia Law School and the Earth Institute at Columbia University in New York, are releasing the results of a survey on outward investors today.1 The survey is part of a long-term study of the rapid global expansion of multinational enterprises (MNEs) from emerging markets. The results released today focus on Hungarian MNEs. The present survey, conducted in 2013, covers the period 2009-2011. Highlights The report includes a ranking of Hungarian MNEs based on their foreign assets (see Table 1). The 20 MNEs ranked held more than US$ 18 billion in foreign assets in 2011. The top-ranked firm, MOL Group, accounted for more than US$ 17 billion, or almost 93% of these assets. The top 20 companies together registered foreign sales of more than US$ 20 billion in 2011 and employed more than 36,000 workers abroad (see Table 2). In 2011, Hungary was the 22nd outward investor in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) stock among emerging markets2 and the 17th largest in terms of outward FDI flows, well below the BRIC countries, but a large investor among the new member states 3 of the European Union. 4 Outward investment by Hungarian companies went primarily into mining, quarrying, and oil and gas exploration and production and pharmaceuticals. Other investment areas included electronics, transportation and storage, plastics production, construction, building materials, energy, manufacturing of medical precision instruments, food products, and IT and other services.
