Please provide a statement of up to 200 words in support of your application to the BAFTA Los Angeles Board describing how your professional experience and contributions as a Director would help the Academy reach these goals (please limit to 200 words):

Having taken a few years away from my previous “hands on” commitment to BAFTA LA which included (in addition to the 6 years on the board) conducting in excess of 100 screening Q&As I believe that I can come back to view the tasks at hand with a refreshed pair of eyes and renewed enthusiasm for the challenges ahead. I was always a great believer in bringing new blood to the board and listened carefully to the membership when they made allegations (albeit untrue) of a “closed shop” at board level. It was in part for that reason that we introduced board term limits but it was also done to ensure that board members, no matter how good and committed, did not become too bogged down in Academy minutiae that they would become inured to change and innovation. I have enjoyed a few years away from the boardroom, while still working constantly in the world of filmed entertainment. I’ve maintained and expanded my contacts in the business during that period. and feel ready to once again to put my efforts and expertise to work for BAFTA Los Angeles– if you’ll be kind enough to elect me.

By submitting my candidacy for election I confirm and pledge to my fellow members that that the statements made above are true and accurate. I pledge that if elected I will conduct myself in a matter befitting the position of a member of the Board of Directors and subject to the written policies and rules that apply to elected members of the Board.

What do you pledge to deliver for BAFTA Los Angeles in 2015 if elected as a Board Member? (Limit 50 words) I would deliver leadership, energy, management, enthusiasm, honesty and commitment. I would also recruit high-level, successful, LA-based British professionals as members.

(Limit 50 words) I have a long history of fundraising. In the private sector I raised $75m for Signpost. What do you believe are BAFTA Los Angeles’ primary and secondary goals as an Academy? (Limited 50 words) I’d like to see BAFTA continue to achieve its existing impressive goals but I would also like it to become an organization which individuals from the British film, television and games industries turn to for advice, assistance and introductions when they are doing business with, or visiting LA.

I would however hope that in this era, when the British talent and creativity is held in such high esteem in Hollywood, BAFTA would “up its game”. I would want BAFTA LA to become even more influential and would play a more pro-active role in promoting and encouraging the British film, television and games industries in LA.

When a British writer, producer, actor, director, distributor, executive or creator comes to Hollywood, they undoubtedly have to navigate a difficult and sometimes impenetrable landscape. I would hope he or she felt they could turn to BAFTA LA for assistance, information and clarification in what is of course the very heart of our industry. Equally, turning to the other direction, I would hope that BAFTA would be able, even more than it does at the moment, to promote and explain the values and merits of the British creative sector to the decision makers in Hollywood.
