It is based around giving accredited training to walk leaders and recruiting individuals for tested, supervised walks in the Borough. Newham Striders was originally funded by the Health Action Zone Cardiovascular Health Programme. Since April 2003, it has been funded by Newham Primary Care Trust and is part of the borough-wide strategy to reduce cardiovascular ill health through increased access to information, advice, diet and exercise.
