The precise systematic position of this species within the former Neotropical Protoneuridae has been the subject of debate, with previous results from a phyloge- netic analysis based on morphology suggesting that the genus Microneura should be placed within the genus Protoneura. Here, we used mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequencing to disentangle the taxo- nomic status of this species. Our results show that Microneura belongs to the Protoneura clade, thus making Microneura a junior synonym of Protoneura. Finally, we provide notes on some observations of emergence and ovipositing behaviour of this species. -

A list of the Odonata of Honduras Sidney W. Dunkle* SUMMARY. The 147 species of dragonflies and damsel- fliesknownfrom Honduras are usted, along with their distribution by political department. Of these records, 54 are new for Honduras, including 9 which extend known ranges of species northward or southward. RESUMEN. Las 147 especies de libélulas conocidas en Honduras son mencionados junto con su distribución por depar- tamento. De esta cifra, 54 especies son nuevas en Honduras. Nueve especies han ampliado sus límites geográficos llegando a este país por el sur y por el norte. Very little has been written about the Odonata of Hondu- ras. Williamson (1905) gave some notes on collecting in Cortes De- partment, mostly near San Pedro Sula, but did not ñame the species taken. Williamson (1923b) briefly discussed the habitat of 4 species of Hetaerina collected near San Pedro Sula. Paulson (1982) in his table of Odonata occurrences in Central American countrieslisted 94 species íromHondur as. ArgiadifficilisSe\y$ has been deleted from the Honduran list because it is thought not to occur in Central America, and was confused with A. oculata Hagen (R. W. Garrison, pers. comm.). The list below includes 54 more species for a total of 147. Of the new records, 5 extend the known ranges of species southward and 4 extend ranges northward. Paulson (1982) listed 54 other species which occur both north and south of Honuras, and therefore can be expected in that country. The odonate fauna of Puerto Rico is relatively well known and has been documentedin detail by KLOTS (1932) and GARCIA-DIAZ( 1938). Hispaniola is still poorly known. No works specifically treat its Odonata, but certain species from the Dominican Republic were discussed by NEEDHAM (1941a, 1941b) and WESTFALL (1964b, 1976). -

A Comparative Study of Odonata (Insecta) Assemblages Along an Altitudinal Gradient in the Sierra De Coalcoma´N Mountains, Michoaca´N, Mexico

Presence–absence data were analyzed using non-parametric and parametric methods. Beta and gamma diversities were estimated using Whittaker’s and Lande’s formulae, respectively. A total of 2,526 adults and 489 larvae were captured, yielding 116 species (c diversity), 44 genera and 9 families. Five new species were dis- covered. The genus Argia was the most important contributor to Zygoptera diversity and total richness (c diversity), yielding 40.4 and 14.7%, respectively. The non-parametric estimator Chao2 provided the closest theoretical estimate of species richness, and Clench’s model fit the data well (R2 ranged from 99.44 to 99.99) to explain a high proportion of the variance (98.8). We conclude that beta diversity is important at the landscape scale, supporting the hypothesis that Mexico is a beta diverse country. Our results triple the number of known species of Odonata for Michoaca´n. Given the considerable richness of odonates at local and landscape scales, our results support the proposal of the Coalcoma´n Mountain Range as a priority area for conservation and related research. -
