Thursday, 9th August, 2007 . Every objection in respect of an application shall be lodged with the Licensing Authority and the District Commissioner of the district in which such an application is to be heard and a copy therefore shall be sent to the applicant not less than seven (7) days before the date at which such an application is to be heard. Objections received later will not be considered except where otherwise stated that the applications are for one vehicle. Every objector shall include the registration number of his/her vehicle (together with the timetable where applicable), operating on the applicants proposed route. Those who submit applications in the -names of partnership and companies must bring certificates of_business registration to the Transport Licensing Board meeting. Applicants who are Kenya, Tanzania or Uganda citizens of non-African origin must produce their certificates or any other documentary proof of their citizenship. Applicants-who fail to attend the above meeting as per required of this notice, without reasonable cause will have their applications refused and should therefore. not expect further communication from the Board. Grace2 Abstract Background: In sub-Saharan Africa, urban informal settlements are rapidly expanding, leading to overcrowding and constituting challenging environments for food and water supplies, health and nutrition. The study objectives were to characterise and compare two low-income areas of Nairobi according to socioeconomic (including livestock and gender) indicators and the nutritional status of non-pregnant women of reproductive age and 1 to 3 year-old children; and to investigate socioeconomic predictors of malnutrition in these areas. Methods: In this cross-sectional survey 205 low-income households in deprived areas of Dagoretti and Korogocho (Nairobi) were randomly selected. Socioeconomic data were collected via an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Maternal and child dietary data were collected by a 24-h dietary recall. Maternal and child anthropometric and haemoglobin measurements were taken. Chi-square, t-test and Wilcoxon-Mann–Whitney test were used to compare groups and multivariable linear regression to assess predictors of malnutrition. Results: Dagoretti consistently showed better socioeconomic indicators including: income, education and occupation of household head, land ownership, housing quality and domestic asset ownership. Animal ownership was more than twice as high in Dagoretti as in Korogocho (53.0 % vs 22.9 % of households; p-value < 0.0001).

Introduction This report details the progress on the project “Powering Small Business: Understanding the Impact of Solar Energy Under Different Pricing Schemes” set up in Kenya in 2013. 587 million people (69.5% of the population) lack access to electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa. Retailers with poor access to electricity have limited means to keep their shops open at night. This limits their ability to operate during evening hours and reach customers who might be at work during the day. Solutions like kerosene do a poor job of lighting the room and have negative health effects. Besides, traditional off-grid solutions require significant one time investments, making them unrealistic for poorer consumers. This project studies the pricing schemes for a new solar technology that combines solar power, mobile repayment, and mobile enforcement. We are partnering with Angaza Design who will roll out 1000 units of their Solite-3 – a solar-powered device that provides light and charges phones. The devices allow payment via mobile money and monitoring of payments with enforcement upon non-payment.
