Course Objectives: This elective course examines a variety of topics in both film and literary studies. Chief among these issues is adaptation: the process of going from page to screen (or screen to page). Students will read a variety of texts and examine their on-screen equivalents. Students will exercise critical viewing and reading skills in determining the success of adaptations and present their assessments through a variety of mediums including presentations and essays. Students will also incorporate their knowledge of film and literary conventions into original productions. This course provide a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate and appreciate texts. Students would be able to analyze how the works of a given period reflect historical, cultural and social conditions as well as represent various literary traditions. Students learn literary concepts and the effects of literary devices and nuances of style of particular authors. Students demonstrate comprehension of and listener response to aural information. The evaluate media messages and the processes used to create those messages and compare the commonalities and conflicts between print and visual media.
