    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WCHA ALUMNI READY FOR 2016-17 PROFESSIONAL CAMPAIGN Three dozen former Association players, representing all eight member institutions, to play for NWHC, CWHL and Minnesota Whitecaps EDINA, Minn. – Oct. 3, 2016 – Three dozen former Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Women’s League players will start the season on the rosters of the two professional women’s hockey leagues this season. Eighteen WCHA alumni are spending the 2016-17 season playing in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), while 18 former Association players are competing in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). The NWHL season begins its second season Friday, Oct. 7, when the Buffalo Beauts host the Boston Pride, the defending champions. Minnesota and Wisconsin each have seven players competing in the four-team NWHL, while Bemidji State, Ohio State, St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth all have one player apiece in the league. Former Wisconsin star and 2012 Patty Kazmaier Award winner Brianna Decker was voted the NWHL’s Most Valuable Player during the league’s inaugural 2015-16 campaign. The 2016-17 season marks the 10th season for the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, with the opening weekend set for Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16. Minnesota Duluth has eight former players in the CWHL, while Ohio State and Wisconsin have three alums on CWHL rosters. Minnesota has two alums and Bemidji State and St. Cloud State each have one player in the league. Former UMD star Caroline Ouellette, a four-time Olympic gold medalist for Team Canada, is the all-time leading scorer in the CWHL.

TAKES FIRST WHEA CHAMPIONSHIP IN SCHOOL HISTORY ~Terriers and Wildcats to compete in NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday~ WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- The Boston University Terriers captured their first ever Women’s Hockey East Cham- pionship and extended their season into the NCAA tournament for the first time in their five-year program RECENT RESULTS existence. Both top seeds were upset in the semifinals, as UConn defeated Providence 3-2 and BU shutout Friday, February 19 UNH 4-0 before winning the championship on Sunday. Providence 4 at Vermont 2 * The fifth-seeded Connecticut Huskies upset the Hockey East regular-season league champions and top-seeded Providence Friars in a 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena. The Huskies jumped to Saturday, February 20 an early lead with momentum in their favor thanks to a three-goal first period. Not ready for their season to Providence 5 at Vermont 2* end, seniors Michelle Binning (Oshawa, Ont.) and Amy Hollstein (Pembroke, Mass.) led the way registering a at Boston University 3, Maine 1 * goal and an assist apiece. Providence didn’t back down and came back flying outshooting the Huskies 19-2 Boston College 2 at New Hampshire 1* in the second period and cutting the lead to one goal but stellar defense by the Huskies lifted them to the Northeastern 0 at Connecticut 0 OT* 3-2 victory and advanced them to their first Hockey East championship game since 2005.

    AMERICAN HOCKEY COACHES ASSOCIATION Executive Director: Joe Bertagna — 7 Concord Street — Gloucester, MA 01930 — (781) 245-4177 For immediate release: Thursday, March 17, 2011 WOMEN’S DIVISION I ICE HOCKEY REEBOK ALL-AMERICANS ANNOUNCED Nine Honorees Ready To Compete for a National Championship ERIE, PA — Nine players competing for an NCAA Women’s National Collegiate Ice Hockey Championship in Erie, PA, this weekend have been honored as 2011 DIVISION I REEBOK WOMEN’S HOCKEY ALL-AMERICAN, it was announced today by the American Hockey Coaches Association. Included among the 12 honorees are representatives of all four of this year's NCAA semifinalists: the University of Wisconsin, Cornell University, Boston University and Boston College. Noteworthy among the selections: • Nine players have been previously honored, including Mercyhurst's Meghan Agosta who becomes the third four-time First Team All-American. Harvard's Angela Ruggiero and Jennifer Botterill were the others. • Only five players come from the United States. Six come from Canada; one from Finland. • There are six seniors, two juniors and four sophomores. • Cornell and Wisconsin led the way with three honorees each. • Five selections came from the WCHA, three each from the ECAC and Hockey East, and one from the CHA.
