FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 25, 2012 Contact: Brendan Anderson Director of Communication Office: 480.348.9191 Ext. 208 Email: [email protected] TOM LEHMAN’S “LEGENDS OF GOLF” EVENT BRINGS TOP PGA CHAMPIONS TOUR GOLFERS FOR INSPIRATIONAL EVENING ON NOVEMBER 3RD Tom Lehman hosts Bernhard Langer and Fred Funk among others for an evening discussing golf, life, and their faith in a free event at Highlands Church Scottsdale, AZ – On the course they are locked in fierce competition, but on Saturday, November 3rd at 7:00pm at Highlands Church in Scottsdale, Tom Lehman, Bernhard Langer, Fred Funk and others will sit down together as friends to discuss their careers in golf and talk about the role faith has played in their lives. This event is free and open to the public, held in the Worship Center of Highlands Church at 9050 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Scottsdale 85255. The evening will also include music by Highlands Church Senior Pastor Les Hughey. This event will provide a unique opportunity for golf fans to get up-close and personal with top names in golf and go beyond the 30-second soundbytes of television to find out where these players get their focus, perspective and priorities. Tom Lehman said, “It is my belief that the things that are broken in our society mainly stem from well-intentioned people making bad choices. What grid needs to be used to make the right choices? I believe it is the Bible, and choosing to do what is right according to the truth it contains is what I want all people to know. Jesus has the answer to every question.” Bernhard Langer is currently in first place in the PGA’s 2012 Champions Tour with Tom Lehman only 111 points behind in second place. Fred Funk is climbing in the standings after his win at the Greater Hickory Classic on October 14th. The Charles Schwab Cup Championship will be held at Scottsdale’s Desert Mountain Club November 1st-4th. Highlands is the church Tom Lehman and his family call home. About Tom Lehman: Tom Lehman has recorded 5 PGA Tour victories and 6 Champions Tour victories in his 30-year professional golf career. In 2011 he was voted by his peers as Player of the Year making him the first to collect the honor not only on the Champions Tour, but also the Web.com Tour (1991) and PGA Tour (1996). Tom served as team captain for the 2006 Ryder cup. He was the 2010 recipient of the Payne Stewart Award for his commitment to uphold the game's heritage of charitable support and his professional and meticulous presentation of himself and the sport through his dress and conduct. He has raised several million dollars through his charity tournament in Minneapolis and is involved with "Match Point," a Phoenix program that matches adults with troubled children. Tom resides in Scottsdale with his wife Melissa and calls Highlands Church home. About Berhard Langer: A native of Anhausen, Germany, Bernhard Langer has been golfing professionally since 1976 with 3 PGA Tour victories and 16 Champions Tour victories under his belt. He has been on the winning Ryder Cup team 6 times and won the US Masters twice. He is the current leader in the Champions Tour Charles Schwab Cup. Bernhard took up golfing at age 7 through caddying and turned pro at age 15. He is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and was appointed as an Honorary Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. As a Christian he helped organize the regular meetings of the European Tour Bible Class and conducts an annual charity event for Youth for Christ. About Fred Funk: Fred Funk has been playing golf professionally since 1981 with 8 PGA Tour victories and 8 Chapions Tour victories. He was on the Presidents Cup team in 2003 and 2005 and the Ryder Cup in 2004. A former golf coach at the University of Maryland, he was named to the University of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007 as well as the state of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame. He says the one thing being a professional golfer has allowed him to do is help others. .
