AN ACTIVITY-PACKED OCTOBER ouncils should begin planning for a busy October. Beginning with October 3 and continuing through October 11, 2015, councils should participate in the Orderwide Charitable Service COutreach Week . Suggested programs for that week include: • Conducting a Coats for Kids program Councils should order coats now for distribution during the week in October by using the Coats for Kids Order Form (#5029) available on kofc.org/forms. Coats may also be ordered through knightsgear.com. Additional information on the program is available on the Knights of Columbus website, kofc.org/coats. • Conducting a Food for Families program Councils should begin announcing in their parishes and communities that the collection dates will be during the service week in October. Once the program is complete, councils should report their participation in the program using the Food for Families Reimbursement Program Refund and Plaque Application (#10057) available on kofc.org/forms.

During the weekend of October 10-11, 2015, councils should participate in the Orderwide Church Drive . The councils in your district should begin preparing for the drive by meeting with the pastor[s] of the parish[es] they serve to ask permission to conduct a membership drive at all Masses that weekend. For a successful drive, the council should:

• Submit a bulletin announcement for the drive during the two weeks leading up to the Church drive • During the weekend of the drive, post teams of brother Knights at the entries of the Church to hand out informational flyers on their council and Prospect Cards (#921A)

Following the Charitable Service Outreach Week and the Orderwide Church Drive , councils should welcome new members into their councils during the Orderwide First Degree Week being held October 12-18, 2015. This is a perfect way for councils to complete an activity-filled start of October. KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS POSTER CONTEST or the past two years, the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council has sponsored the “Keep Christ in Christmas” Poster Contest. This program allows children, ages 5-14, to engage their creative talents Fand imaginations while understanding the true meaning of Christmas. Over six thousand young people have participated in the opportunity to showcase their artistic skills while learning about the importance of why we celebrate Christmas. The Knights of Columbus Supreme Council is again encouraging councils to take part in this program to get even more young people engaged in keeping Christ in Christmas and not just participating in the commercial aspect of the holiday.
