This is a great nuisance to King Claudius, who dispatches his two henchmen, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, to retrieve the body of the late Lord Chamberlain. Upon being asked where the body was, prince Hamlet delivers a rather cryptic line: “The body is with the King, but the King is not with the body” (Hamlet, 4.2.26–27). It is a very well known line, but it is hard to say what exactly to make of it. It seems to be a reference to King Claudius himself more than it is a reference to Polonius. It seems to hint at the doctrine of King’s two bodies, the political theological notion of the separation of the King’s mortal natural body and the King’s immortal political body. Hamlet clearly doesn’t think much of Claudius as he continues: “The King is a thing […] of nothing” (Hamlet, 4.2.27–29). While there are many interpretations of these words readily available, we shall turn to one in particular, to Jacques Lacan’s, because it will lead us to a series of comic examples whose func- tioning is at the core of this essay. In Seminar VI on Desire and its Interpretation, Lacan quotes Hamlet’s words and presents a perhaps surprisingly simple explanation: “I would ask you simply to replace the word king by the word phallus in order to see that it precisely is what is in question, namely that the body is engaged in this affair of the phallus, and how, but that on the contrary, the phallus, itself, is not engaged in anything, and that it always slips between your fingers” (Lacan 2002, p. -

They will understand the elements of film, as a method of story-telling related to literature and theatre but unique to cinema. They will know the history of film and understand the variety of genres of film. They will know major influences on the art of film- making, including specific films, directors, and actors. They will understand the variety of ways in which film affects and is affected by culture. They will be able to analyze films using valid criteria, and will be experienced and knowledgeable critics. The course will focus on analysis and writing. The course is an opportunity to learn and practice skills in analysis of both text and visual and performing arts. Cleveland Stadium
Coordinates: 41°30′24″N 81°41′50″W Cleveland Stadium Cleveland Stadium, commonly known as Municipal Stadium or Cleveland Stadium Lakefront Stadium, was a multi-purpose stadium located in Cleveland, Ohio. It was one of the early multi-purpose stadiums, built to Lakefront Stadium accommodate both baseball and football. The stadium opened in 1931 and Municipal Stadium is best known as the long-time home of the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball, from 1932 to 1993, and the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL), from 1946 to 1995, in addition to hosting other teams, sports, and being a regular concert venue. The stadium was a four-time host of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, one of the host venues of the 1948 and 1954 World Series, and the site of the original Dawg Pound, Red Right 88, and The Drive. Through most of its tenure as a baseball facility, the stadium was the largest in Major League Baseball by seating capacity, seating over 78,000 Final baseball season, September 1993 initially and over 74,000 in its final years. It was superseded only by the Location 1085 West 3rd Street Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 1958 to 1961, while it was the Cleveland, Ohio 44114 temporary home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and by Mile High Stadium in 1993, the temporary home of the expansion Colorado Rockies. For Owner City of Cleveland football, the stadium seated approximately 80,000 people, ranking as one Operator Cleveland Stadium of the larger seating capacities in the NFL. -

ROFES* Why we should not be surprised when a former student calls to ask why a grievancehas been filed againsthim just because he borrowed money from his firm's client trust account to purchaseproperty in the Caribbean. The American law school discovered ethics at about the same time the rest of America discovered how rare a commodity ethics was in our national leaders, most of whom happened to be lawyers. In fact, despite trailblazing work by scholars such as Monroe Freedman, Geoffrey Hazard, and others, it is no stretch of the historical record to conclude that the place and status of ethics in the law school owes more to Richard Nixon and his three legal Johns (Dean, Ehrlichman, and Mitchell) than to any law professor.' Yet, two decades after the culmination of Watergate, the law school remains confused about the role ethics plays in its mission of preparing students for practice. -

The Museum of Modern Art For Immediate Release May 1994 MGM 70 YEARS: REDISCOVERIES AND CLASSICS June 24 - September 30, 1994 A retrospective celebrating the seventieth anniversary of Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer, the legendary Hollywood studio that defined screen glamour and elegance for the world, opens at The Museum of Modern Art on June 24, 1994. MGM 70 YEARS: REDISCOVERIES AND CLASSICS comprises 112 feature films produced by MGM from the 1920s to the present, including musicals, thrillers, comedies, and melodramas. On view through September 30, the exhibition highlights a number of classics, as well as lesser-known films by directors who deserve wider recognition. MGM's films are distinguished by a high artistic level, with a consistent polish and technical virtuosity unseen anywhere, and by a roster of the most famous stars in the world -- Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Judy Garland, Greta Garbo, and Spencer Tracy. MGM also had under contract some of Hollywood's most talented directors, including Clarence Brown, George Cukor, Vincente Minnelli, and King Vidor, as well as outstanding cinematographers, production designers, costume designers, and editors. Exhibition highlights include Erich von Stroheim's Greed (1925), Victor Fleming's Gone Hith the Hind and The Wizard of Oz (both 1939), Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), and Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise (1991).
