Danger Money - Wikipedia 7/13/2018 Danger Money - Wikipedia Danger Money Danger Money is the second and final studio album by the progressive rock Danger Money supergroup U.K., featuring John Wetton , Eddie Jobson and Terry Bozzio. It was released by E.G. Records / Polydor in March 1979. "The Only Thing She Needs", "Caesar's Palace Blues" and "Carrying No Cross" had been performed on tour throughout 1978 (and an early version of "Carrying No Cross" included what became the intro to the title track) by the band's original line-up with Bill Bruford and Allan Holdsworth. "Rendezvous 6:02" and "Nothing to Lose" were both edited for single release. The album was remastered in 2016 and included as part of the box-set "Ultimate Collector's Edition". In the second half of the 1970s, Brian Eno, Larry Fast, Mickey Hart, Stomu Yamashta and many other musicians blurred the lines between rock and avantgarde. Brian Eno (34), ex-keyboardist for Roxy Music, changed the course of rock music at least three times. The experiment of fusing pop and electronics on Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy (sep 1974 - nov 1974) changed the very notion of what a "pop song" is. Eno took cheap melodies (the kind that are used at the music-hall, on television commercials, by nursery rhymes) and added a strong rhythmic base and counterpoint of synthesizer. The result was similar to the novelty numbers and the "bubblegum" music of the early 1960s, but it had the charisma of sheer post-modernist genius. Eno had invented meta-pop music: avantgarde music that employs elements of pop music. He continued the experiment on Another Green World (aug 1975 - sep 1975), but then changed its perspective on Before And After Science (? 1977 - dec 1977). Here Eno's catchy ditties acquired a sinister quality.

All of them equally progressive in their own way, and in some ways, share a common thread between them. But, ask any diehard prog-rock fan and I guarantee another name comes up each and every time: Gentle Giant. Although never quite attaining the same level of sales or status of celebrity as the aforementioned, Gentle Giant most certainly made a statement, left a mark and carved their names into the history books of English prog. A mixture of rock, funk, jazz, classical, and even a bit of punk, Gentle Giant was as progressive as they come—and then some. Holding down the fort for the better part of eight years was John Weathers. Although not their original drummer, it was Weathers that helped propel Gentle Giant to international fame with an interesting mix of bombastic backbeat, an ear for tuned percussion and the ability to play any time signature and style thrown his way. On my interview list from the beginning, John wasn’t an easy man to fi nd. A few Internet searches every so often didn’t turn up much until I happened to stumble across ‘Two Weeks In Pain - Under The Knife’ [http:// www.gorgg.org/UnderKnife1.htm], a twenty-fi ve-episode online diary of John’s experience in the hospital and under the care of the N.H.S.

Toivo Burlin: The creation (and re-creation) of virtual spatiality: Surround sound mixing in King Crimson’s back catalog box sets Abstract: The article analyzes surround mixing of King Crimson’s analog recordings. “Lizard,” “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic (Part 1),” “The Night Watch,” “Trio,” and “One Time” are analyzed using the theoretical perspec- tives of the music recording as representation and spatial design. There is a difference between live and studio recordings in surround: live recordings tend to be mixed according to the direct/ambient principle, while studio re- cordings are mixed according to the principle of direct-sound all around. Live recordings in surround can also often be understood as examples of documentarism, and studio recordings as examples of hyper realism. The spatial design of the surround mix tends to emphasize aspects of spatiality in the broad sense: where the recording can, for example, be interpreted as a landscape in sound. Introduction This essay discusses some tendencies in the emerging conventions in con- temporary surround mixing of popular music.
