Year 7 News

On Wednesday afternoon eight Year 7 pupils attended the Manchester United Christmas party at Old Trafford. These pupils were selected at random from the form group with the overall best attendance from October half term. This form was 7D ! All of the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the themselves! They participated in competitions, dancing and even a photo opportunity with Fred the Red! These pupils also received gifts from Manchester United for their outstanding behaviour whilst at the Christmas party. These pupils are a credit to our school.

Year 8 News

The Reach Out programme is successfully continuing with some of our Year 8 pupils this week. As part of this great mentoring scheme aimed at improving literacy and numeracy skills as well as confidence and character building, 13 Year 8 girls have the opportunity to tour the BBC at Media City. The girls will have a fantastic opportunity to see what it is like to broadcast a radio show with 5Live! Watch this space next week for updates and pictures from this event!

A Boy Called Christmas

This week in English, Year 8 pupils have been reading ‘A Boy Called Christmas’, a magical novel by Matt Haig. It is a fantastic adventure tale, which tells the secret story of Father Christmas. It is exciting, emotional, and very funny, and our pupils have been having a wonderful time! Tanya Yasmin, in 8T1, says, “I am really enjoying reading this book. It is very imaginative and gripping! I love the moral: ‘Always believe in yourself and keep on trying.’ It is very inspirational!”

Harry Potter Studio Tour

On Friday 2nd December, 50 of our pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 were lucky enough to spend the day at the Harry Potter Studios in London. It was a magical day for pupils and staff, and the pupils were wonderful ambassadors for our school. Kiera Lennon, in 7D Rylands, said: “I had an amazing day, because we all explored the actual sets used in the Harry Potter films. There was so much interesting stuff – and we even got to try some magic ourselves!” Alyamama Issa, in 7D Whitworth, said: “I enjoyed the trip so much because it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and the excitement was unbelievable! It was a day that I will never forget.”

School Council

The School Council are hard at work making plans for the Christmas party. A committee has been selected to finalise the details, using ideas from across the school, and will present their plan to staff next week.

Debate Club

Appropriately enough for Test Week, the motion in Debate Club this week was: “This house believes that exams are a bad idea”. Surprisingly, most pupils were keen to argue against the motion! We had a lively and positive debate, with some interesting ideas and theories put forward. In the end, the opposition won the day!

Inclusion Team
