Buenos Aires, 2011 REVISIN DEL GÉNERO SACCIOLEPIS (POACEAE: PANICOIDEAE: PANICEAE) EN SUS ASPECTOS TAXONMICOS, HISTOFOLIARES Y FILOGENÉTICOS RESUMEN El género Sacciolepis perteneciente a la tribu Paniceae fue segregado del género Panicum por Nash en 1901. Hasta el momento sus especies fueron tratadas en floras regionales o en re,isiones parciales del género en América -frica Asia y Australia. El prop.sito de este traba/o es reali0ar una re,isi.n taxon.mica completa del género acompa1ada de un detallado an2lisis histofoliar y filogenético. Para lle,ar a cabo la re,isi.n taxon.mica se estudiaron e/emplares de herbario pro,enientes de instituciones de Argentina y del extran/ero. Como resultado se reconocen 23 especies se proporciona una cla,e para identificar los taxones descripciones detalladas de las especies ilustraciones de los caracteres de importancia taxon.mica sinonimia actuali0ada y lectotipificaciones cuando fue necesario. 5as especies de Sacciolepis se hallan distribuidas en regiones tropicales y subtropicales de -frica 6continente en donde se halla m2s representado7 Asia Ocean8a y América. Por otra parte los estudios histofoliares re,elaron 3 tipos anat.micos9 mes.filo xer.filo e hidr.filo y corroboraron la naturale0a fotosintética C3. Asimismo se estudiaron los microcaracteres de la lemma de los antecios superiores caracteri02ndose Sacciolepis por la presencia de micropelos y cuerpos de s8lice y en menor frecuencia de agui/ones. También se obser,aron antecios superiores estipitados caracter8stica no,edosa para el género. El an2lisis filogenético re,el. que Sacciolepis constituye un grupo monofilético sustentado por una serie de sinapomorf8as que difieren de los caracteres considerados diagn.sticos del género 6gluma superior sacciforme y pan8cula espiciforme7. Palabras cla,e9 Sacciolepis Poaceae taxonom8a estudios histofoliares filogenia REVIEW OF GENUS SACCIOLEPIS (POACEAE: PANICOIDEAE: PANICEAE) IN THEIR TAXONOMIC, HISTOFOLIAR AND PHYLOGENETIC FEATURES. ABSTRACT The genus Sacciolepis belongs to the tribe Paniceae and was segregated from the genus Panicum by Nash in 1901. Sacciolepis has only been taxonomically re,iewed in regional floras 6América Africa Asia and Australia7. The purpose of this work is to accomplish a complete taxonomic re,ision of the genus including detailed phylogenetic and anatomical analyses. In order to perform the taxonomic re,ision herbarium specimens from argentinean and foreign herbaria were studied. As a result 23 species are recogni0ed and a key to identify the different taxa detailed descriptions of the species ilustrations of characters with taxonomic ,alue updated sinonimy and lectotypifications when necessary are pro,ided. The species of Sacciolepis are distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa 6where this genus shows the richest di,ersity of species7 Asia Oceania and America. Moreo,er anatomical studies re,ealed 3 different histofoliar types9 mesophytic xeric and hydrophytic and corroborated the C3 photosynthetic nature. Microcharacters of the lemma in the upper anthecia were also studied showing that Sacciolepis is characteri0ed by the presence of microhairs and silica bodies and less frequently hooks. Stipitate upper anthecia were also obser,ed a no,el feature for the genus. The phylogenetic analysis re,ealed that Sacciolepis is a monophyletic group supported by a number of synapomorphies other than those characters usually considered diagnostic to the genus 6saccate upper glume and spiciform panicle7.     ACORUS/ACORACEAE 1077 CLASS MONOCOTYLEDONAE Plants usually herbaceous—in other words, lacking regular secondary thickening (except Palmaceae, Smilacaceae, most Agavaceae, and a few Poaceae); seedlings usually with 1 seed leaf or cotyledon; stems or branches elongating by apical growth and also by growth of basal por- tion of internodes; leaves when present alternate, whorled, basal, or rarely opposite, elongating by basal growth (readily seen on spring-flowering bulbs whose leaf-tips have been frozen back); leaf blades usually with parallel or concentrically curved veins, these unbranched or with inconspicuous, short, transverse connectives (leaves net-veined or with prominent midrib and spreading side-veins parallel with each other in Alismataceae, Araceae, Smilacaceae, Marantaceae, and some Orchidaceae); perianth with dissimilar inner and outer whorls (petals and sepals), or all parts about alike (tepals), the parianth parts separate or united, commonly in 3s, less often in 2s, rarely in 5s, or perianth of scales or bristles, or entirely absent. AWorldwide, the Monocotyledonae is a group composed of ca. 55,800 species in 2,652 genera arranged in 84 families (Mabberley 1997); 25 of these families occur in nc TX. The monocots appear to be a well-supported monophyletic group derived from within the monosulcate Magnoliidae group of dicots (Chase et al. 1993; Duvall et al. 1993; Qiu et al. 1993). From the cla- distic standpoint, the dicots are therefore paraphyletic and thus inappropriate for formal recog- nition (see explantion and Fig. 41 in Apendix 6). E-mail: [email protected] Received 30 November 2010; Revised 1 February 2011; Accepted 2 February 2011 Abstract Using isotopic screens, phylogenetic assessments, and 45 years of physiological data, it is now possible to identify most of the evolutionary lineages expressing the C4 photosynthetic pathway. Here, 62 recognizable lineages of C4 photosynthesis are listed. Thirty-six lineages (60%) occur in the eudicots. Monocots account for 26 lineages, with a Downloaded from minimum of 18 lineages being present in the grass family and six in the sedge family. Species exhibiting the C3–C4 intermediate type of photosynthesis correspond to 21 lineages. Of these, 9 are not immediately associated with any C4 lineage, indicating that they did not share common C3–C4 ancestors with C4 species and are instead an independent line. The geographic centre of origin for 47 of the lineages could be estimated. These centres tend to jxb.oxfordjournals.org cluster in areas corresponding to what are now arid to semi-arid regions of southwestern North America, south- central South America, central Asia, northeastern and southern Africa, and inland Australia.

Resumen Giraldo-Cañas, D.: Las especies del género Axonopus (Poaceae: Panicoideae: Paspaleae) de Colombia. Revista Acad. Colomb. Ci. Exact. 38(147):130-76, abril-junio de 2014. ISSN 0370-3908. Axonopus es un género nativo del continente americano del cual se conocen unas 71 especies, principalmente concentradas en el norte de Sudamérica, con algunos representantes aparentemente introducidos en el Viejo Mundo. Se presenta el estudio morfológico y taxonómico de las especies colombianas, sus sinónimos, su descripción e iconografía, su distribución geográfica y ecológica, sus nombres vernáculos, sus usos, y se comentan algunas particularidades morfológicas, así como las relaciones morfológicas de las especies. Se discuten las afinidades morfológicas y filogenéticas con Digitaria, Mesosetum, Paspalum, Spheneria y Streptostachys. Se propone un nuevo nombre para Axonopus sect. Cabrera. Dos binomios se reducen a la sinonimia Axonopus piccae (= Axonopus scoparius) y Axonopus poiophyllus (= Axonopus compressus). Se destaca que el ejemplar J. Cuatrecasas 3882 (US- 1797918) corresponde claramente al holotipo de Axonopus cuatrecasasii, mientras que J. Cuatrecasas 3882 (US- 2780372) corresponde, sin duda alguna, a un ejemplar más de Axonopus purpusii. Cuatro especies se excluyen de la flora colombiana (Axonopus laxiflorus, Axonopus longispicus, Axonopus pubivaginatus y Axonopus senescens). Así, Axonopus está representado en Colombia por 19 especies, de las cuales tres son endémicas (Axonopus orinocensis, Axonopus morronei y Axonopus zuloagae).
