Further information can be found in the manuals for each respective component. 2 DocuArchive Server components The DocuArchive server components are run as Windows services. As long as no other information is provided for the individual server components, the following requirements apply to the hardware, software and runtime environment: Processor Intel / AMD x86 or x64 Main memory 1 GB Operating system Windows Server 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2 System services Workstation service (LanmanWorkstation) and server service (LanmanServer) must be active. Network The TCP/IP protocol is required for communication. Support for NetBIOS names is required to communicate with the administration program. All server components must be run within the same Windows domain. Event log The log size in the event viewer must be set at 1 MB for the application type. In addition, the Overwrite Events as Required option must be activated. 2.1 DocuArchive ArchiveServer 2.1.1 Hardware and software requirements Sizing the host for DocuArchive ArchiveServer depends strongly on the amount and size of documents to be archived, the load generated by search operations and the number currently active users. The minimum requirements for a ArchiveServer server in production environment are: Main memory At least 2 GB, recommended 4 GB Hard disk Program file of ArchiveServer require up to 280 MB. DocuLynx strongly suggests using fault tolerant hard disk systems. 2.1.2 Runtime environment DocuArchive ArchiveServer can be run on simple servers or domain controllers. DocuLynx recommends operation on a simple server. It is also advisable to run only DocuArchive applications on the ArchiveServer computer. 3 / 25 Operating the archive server on computers that are used as terminal servers (for e. g. • The Word Processor Wars, 1978 to 1996: Reflections of a Participant Observer
The Word Processor Wars, 1978 to 1996: Reflections of a Participant Observer John V. Lombardi, The Club, January 5, 2012 Springfield, Massachusetts For a little over a decade, the microcomputer revolution spawned an intense competition among small machines and their corresponding software. Apple, Exidy, Radio Shack, Atari, IBM PC, Compaq, Osborne, and many other brands of hardware competed to capture the wave of interest in small machines. Although today most microcomputers are either Microsoft-PC clones of one kind or another or Apple proprietary machines, the late 1970s to the early 1990s witnessed a proliferation of products and software. What has become the virtually ubiquitous personal computer (and its derivatives in smart phones and tablets), began as a hobbyist enthusiasm. The move to the mainstream of American business, academic, and consumer users required the development of software that would turn these clever little machines into useful tools for ordinary work. The process of developing useful software proved complex, challenging, and fascinating. Computer makers and software designers worked in concert and in competition to find the right combination of hardware power and software features that would produce inescapable utility at consumer price levels. Most of the time we see the face of the software, hence the focus on a "killer app," but the development of killer applications in the early years depended as much on the capability of the hardware as on the imagination and creativity of the software designers and programmers.
