Haydon Taylor, Dylan Gillard, Kieran McMillan Round 1 & Ryan Cumberland on making the initial training squad for the under 18 interleague games. It seems a long time ago but to get 6 out of 7 wins against the old enemy in round 1 was a great start to the season. Particularly pleasing was the efforts of the under 18 boys who started the day off well for the club with a great win and gave JColls coaching career a winning start. Bad luck to Trav Wilkie on his knee injury. There is no truth to the rumour that JColl was seen at Princes Park on Sunday looking for the Mathouses job.

The football didn’t get off to quite as good a start with the Jason Allen Under 18’s going down in a spirited match by 38 points. President The Bombercheros reversed this result coming away with a 3 Goal Victory in what was also a hard fought match. The Seniors ended up winning by 122 Points, setting the game up with good hard running out of defence and some handy work up forward by Ruff and Jimmy. Timmy Hill again displayed is courageous attack on the ball whilst Ethan and Paul gave us plenty of run around the ground.

Our next two matches will be extremely tough as we take on two of the early Premiership Favourites in Rupertswood and Sunbury with a bye in between the two. Rupertswood have recruited well in the off-season in both Football and Netball and I know that both our Footballers and the Netballers are looking forward to the challenge of taking on Rupo on their home turf.

the association into the place it is today.

Bill’s commitment to the association led to him being awarded the Bob Croxford - Best Club Person Award twice in 2003 and 2007.

Bill enjoys being a part of the Riddell Umpires because it’s a place where he has made a lot of friends and because it allows him to be in the best place to watch a game of footy.

Bill is a highly respected member of the Riddell Umpires. We would like to yet again congratulate Bill on receiving his Life Membership and we look forward to sharing many more years ahead.

The Riddell Umpires also wishes to congratulate games record holder Alan “Ollie” Matthews. Round 3 will see Ollie umpire his 500th senior match At the end At the end of the 2013 season, Bill becoming only the 2nd person at the Riddell Umpires Connell became the 17th Life Member of the Riddell to reach this milestone. Well done Ollie, we hope Umpires. you have a great match. Sponsor Of The Week Life membership is not given out lightly with less than – Baker’s Delight - Melton 2% of umpires in the associations history receiving the honour.

Bill started umpiring in 1994. He started umpiring because he was already following his two sons John and Dwayne to their matches. Bill has amassed 523 games of which 234 have been senior games in his time at the Riddell Umpires.

Bill has achieved success on the field as a goal umpire, umpiring the 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2013 Senior Grand Finals. But it is off the field where Bill has earnt his Life Membership. Bill has been the association’s trainer since the late 1990’s. Bill is always available at training to assist with an injury and prepare umpires for training. If Bill is not umpiring a final, he is in the white trainer’s uniform assisting umpires in anyway possible. Along with his trainer duties, Bill can always be found assisting in the kitchen on a Wednesday night making sure that all umpires are well fed and ready for our association meetings. Bill joined the committee in 2011 and still holds that position, helping to build
