The study was therefore designed to analyse management practices in Lagos state tertiary institutions through total quality management structural framework. The selected public tertiary institutions in Lagos State were Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo, University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCOPED) Inaforija, Epe, Federal College of Education Technical (FCET)Akoka, and Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) Oto-Ijanikin. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. A Total Quality Management practices and Quality Teacher Education Questionnaire (TQMP-QTEQ) was used to obtain data for the study. The structured questionnaire was administered on 905 academic and non-academic staff members and final year students of sampled institutions using purposive sampling technique. The questionnaire was content-validated using expert opinion method and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) statistics of sampling adequacy. In terms of the measure of reliability, the Cronbach’s Alpha values for the two major constructs of the study are satisfactory – quality teacher education (0.838) and TQM (0.879). Their Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) statistics of sampling adequacy were equally above the acceptable standard of 0.7. The hypotheses were tested at the 5 percent level of significance.

Dhikru Adewale Yagboyaju, PhD Dhikru Adewale Yagboyaju is a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria email: [email protected] ABSTRACT The relationship between elections and the vitality of a democratic society is clear. Elections have proven to be the best means of strengthening the mandate of a performing administration or removing a non-performing one. This paper argues, however, that the outcomes of several elections in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic have proved contrary to the common trend in most advanced democratic systems, in which electoral outcomes are based on performance. While in some cases, especially in political party primaries, candidates with little or no democratic credentials have emerged during general elections, in other instances administrations with relatively high records of infrastructural development have been voted out. This study traces the most probable causes of this paradox to Nigeria’s money politics and a possible misinterpretation of the concept of development. It is essentially a literature-based study, descriptive but also analytical. The paper concludes that the country will have to contend with the politics of underdevelopment for as long as immediate and pecuniary benefits constitute the expectation of the generality of followers. This has impacted negatively on investment in the sector and overall economic development. The study therefore assessed patronage of tourist centres in Badagry Local Government area (LGA) of Lagos State. Nigeria. The study was based on primary data obtained in a cross-sectional survey of 240 respondents using multi-stage sampling technique in selected tourist centres in the LGA. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed that majority of the respondents were between 26-30 years of age with an average of 36.2 years. Majority (62.1%) of the respondents were females, 71.1 percent were single and 41.7 percent had tertiary education. Furthermore, majority (60.8%) of the respondents had between 4-6 individuals as household members. The most visited tourist centre recreation purpose (62.1%), education purpose (87.1%), research purpose (84.2%), information purpose (72.1%) and sightseeing which accounted for 57.9%.
