Anneliese Burns Wilson Considerations for Training Female Adult Students (W) Adult students aren't just tall kids, and training them the same way we train our younger students isn't effective. Most of our adult female students (not to mention many of us) will go through at least one of these changes. What's safe, what's beneficial, what might cause injuries? In addition to learning more about what's happening in the body during these times and how to work with these changes, this class will give you ideas on how to create classes geared towards these students to help you grow your adult dance program.

Training Beyond the Obvious Changes (W) Puberty is a challenging time of life for the female dancer - and everyone working with her. Hormones, obvious body changes and mood swings are in full force during this roller coaster ride, but these are just some of the things that tween and teen dancers are going through. This class goes beyond what we see and looks at. How we can adjust our training methods to facilitate growth while reducing the chance for injury? The impacts of major physical and physiological changes will be discussed with suggestions on how to deal with each of them.

Proven training methods and concepts derived from various sports such as track and field, gymnastics, and karate, will be integrated into the class without sacrificing the beauty of the traditional idiom. This class will encourage instructors to design a ballet class borrowing heavily from a traditional structure but also integrating a goal oriented and creative emphasis. The methodology we explore keeps the tradition of the classical idiom intact.

Integrated Techniques for Flexibility & Strength (W) Francisco will take you through a series of dynamic stretching, accompanied with music and counts. Various flexibility and strength training techniques from gymnastics, Graham floor work, cross fit training will be incorporated into the various effective dynamic stretching sequences. These stretches are not static but moving while utilizing core abdominal muscle getting dancers to access their maximum range of motion as well as effectively strengthen those isolated areas in the body being pushed. Francisco will take you through each stretch sequence and concept to understand how to push the muscles, ligaments, and tissues in the body to increase the range of motion of each dancer resulting in an effective, balanced and highly trained body designed for students to reach their highest potential.
