Gingerbread House Day Gingerbread House Day is observed annually on December 12. As the story goes, gingerbread was a favorite food of an Armenian monk, Gregory of Nicopolis. He brought gingerbread to Europe around 992 AD and taught French Christians how to bake it. Gingerbread was oft used in religious ceremonies and was baked to be sturdy as it was regularly molded into images of saints. We can thank the Brothers’ Grimm for the idea of a gingerbread house through their tale of Hansel and Gretel. It didn’t take long for the German gingerbread guilds to pick up the idea and put it to a more festive use making snowy cottages made from the spicy-sweet treat. In honor and in celebration of Gingerbread House day, we will be lunching at The Broadmoors’ Natural Epicurean at 11:15 a.m., then visiting The Broadmoors’ amazing life-size, gingerbread house afterward. As this day is also Hot Cocoa Day, join us in the Dining Room at 2:15 p.m. to get your creative juices flowing as we sip hot chocolate while building our own gingerbread village. Come join the fun! https://nationaldaycalendar.com/gingerbread-house-day-december-12/ Generations Meet Mei-Li’s Poetry Col.
