This year we have a collection of award winning literary and visual art creations from students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Enclosed you will find a reservoir of talent from the Lewis community that will evoke your imagination, challenge your intellect, and dazzle your senses, and enlighten your mind and spirit. Enjoy the experience! This magazine, which supports the recognition of the creative talents of members in the Lewis community and the publication of their works, was made possible by the support of the President of the University, Brother James Gaffney, and the great desire of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Bonnie Bondavalli. I am sure that all of the readers of this text, and certainly myself, are extremely grateful to both the president and the dean. Gratitude is also due to all of this year’s staff, judges, contributors, and technicians who are mentioned on the acknowledgment page, as well as past founders, editors, and coordinators of Windows. These present and past visionaries have opened our minds, our internal windows of light and darkness, to the wealth of artistic expression that lies within the members of the Lewis community. The task of judging the vast talent found in the entries to the Windows Fine Arts Magazine Contest was one of great magnitude. The number of entries received in the writing category exceeded one hundred, and in visual there were fifty-seven entries. This was a record year based upon the number of entries received. However, we did not have any winners in the musical composition category. The winning entries that appear in this volume are of superior quality! Prizes for the writing contest were awarded based on the following scale: First Prize: superior insight, imagination, technique, and knowledge of the genre Second Prize: outstanding insight, imagination, technique, and knowledge of the genre Third Prize: high quality insight, imagination, technique, and knowledge of the genre Honorable Mention: publishable quality insight, imagination, technique, and knowledge of the genre (If a category skips one of the levels of prizes, this is due to the quality of the submissions received). As in the past, the judging of the visual art contest was mirrored after the standards of a professional art contest. All entries were judged collectively to produce the winners. Judging for the contest was a time-consuming, difficult task, but one well worth every effort. A special thanks is owed to the many judges who devoted their time and expertise to this effort in support of the magazine. Also, Professor Paul Mitchell created the beautiful front and back cover of the journal, which is a testament to his computer graphic genius. Finally, the contributors to this volume should be very proud of their accomplishment in their genre. The entire Lewis University community is greatly enhanced by the talents of their works that appear in the printed and online versions of the magazine. Asst.     Existential Songs Full results Supplementary material for Mick Cooper’s Existential psychotherapy and counselling: Contributions to a pluralistic practice (Sage, 2015), Appendix. One of the great strengths of existential philosophy is that it stretches far beyond psychotherapy and counselling; into art, literature and many other forms of popular culture. This means that there are many – including films, novels and songs that convey the key messages of existentialism. These may be useful for trainees of existential therapy, and also as recommendations for clients to deepen an understanding of this way of seeing the world. In order to identify the most helpful resources, an online survey was conducted in the summer of 2014 to identify the key existential films, books and novels. Invites were sent out via email to existential training institutes and societies, and through social media. Participants were invited to nominate up to three of each art media that ‘most strongly communicate the core messages of existentialism’. In total, 119 people took part in the survey (i.e., gave one or more response). Approximately half were female (n = 57) and half were male (n = 56), with one of other gender. The average age was 47 years old (range 26–89). The participants were primarily distributed across the UK (n = 37), continental Europe (n = 34), North America (n = 24), Australia (n = 15) and Asia (n = 6). Around 90% of the respondents were either qualified therapists (n = 78) or in training (n = 26). Of these, around two-thirds (n = 69) considered themselves existential therapists, and one third (n = 32) did not. There were 235 nominations for the key existential song, with enormous variation across the different respondents.

    Distro Notes This document was revised on March 9, 2011. Older versions can be discarded. 1. Overview. This document discusses a Linux distro that's under construction. Comments are welcome. The distro is portable; most versions run directly from pocket-size media (thumbdrives, 3" Mini-DVDs, etc.). It's useful for multimedia tasks, software development, Internet file or site downloads, office work, and system maintenance. Some versions also provide a large collection of games (including lightweight that even people who "don't play games" may find diverting). Target: This distro is aimed at UNIX and MS-Windows CLI developers, system administrators, multimedia hobbyists, and people with an interest in chess (there's 11 chess engines) and lightweight games in general. Desktop: There's a lightweight desktop. The desktop doesn't include GNOME or KDE eye candy (dancing icons, 3D workspaces, etc.) but it gets the job done and does support a few special features, including remote access and single-instance support. Windows clones: This distro resembles old versions of MS-Windows visually, it includes some MS-Windows work-alike programs, and it runs MS-Windows programs. However, it's not aimed at MS-Windows people. Former MS-Windows users should try PCLinuxOS and Ubuntu instead (these are polished Windows-style distros). That said, this distro offers somes advantages over Windows-style distros: it's faster, in some cases; it requires less memory (*); it includes tools, collections, and databases that are generally unavailable or poorly maintained elsewhere; and you can run it from a Flash device that fits on a keychain.
