This weekend is the celebration of All-Saints' Day, November 1, since the feast falls this year on Sunday. This is a favorite feast of mine so I love it when it coincides with Sunday Masses. November 2 is All-Souls' Day and with that we will keep in prayer the members of the parish who passed on in the last year to the next life and to life in God. As in past years, there are several ways which we will commemorate them for All Souls. Their names will be said at all Masses with their pictures on the screens as we pray for their peace in God. Their families are invited especially to the 11:00 Memorial Mass at which they receive the cross that has their loved one's name on. If you're unable to attend Mass this weekend please know that you can arrange to get the cross from the office.

November 1, 2020 · All Saints 3 Faith Formation Contact Deborah Gretzinger @ 494-6450, [email protected], www.stagnesreym.com Understanding the From http://thecatholicspirit.com/featured/understanding-the-communion-of-saints/

The communion of saints is a timely topic as November arrives because we celebrate All Saints (Nov. 1) and All Souls (Nov. 2) and pray for the dead. This core belief is stated in the Apostles’ Creed: “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”

The communion of saints is the Church (Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 946). It has three states or divisions, the communion of saints of the living, those who are still on their pilgrim journey on earth; and the communion of saints of the dead or the faithful departed, some of whom are being purified, those in purgatory, and the ones who are enjoying eternal glory in the presence of God, those in (Catechism, No. 954).

The same Christ who reigns on the throne in heaven with his saints above is made present in the Eucharist with his saints below, and when the faithful receive the Eucharist, there is holy Communion between all of God’s saints.

So, with this in mind, remember that God calls everyone to strive for holiness and sainthood. If this seems like too tall an order, remember that, with God’s help and strengthened by the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, we can live our lives reflecting His love and goodness, letting Him work through us, just like the saints!
