Our jewelry pays homage to the journey of our lives: where we come from, what our stories are, and how they have influenced both the world and us. THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME The name Waxing Poetic embodies life’s voyage. While the words ‘waxing poetic’ mean ‘speaking in a flowery or poetic fashion,’ we look at the individual words and are reminded that ‘waxing’ means ‘to become, to evolve into something else’ and ‘poetic’ means… just that, and everything related. GROWING UP PagLIEI: EVER-TIED SISTERS Patti and Lizanne are the two youngest daughters of a boisterous, close-knit Italian- American family from the Philadelphia/New Jersey area. Their childhood home was an environment rich with love, faith, iconography, and storytelling, where myths and fables played as much of a part in their development as morals and a quest for meaning. Patti and Lizanne were blessed with a tremendously supportive mother, Rita, who encouraged her girls to be tenacious and take risks, while also stressing the importance of keeping faith: in themselves, in each other, in love, and in possibilities. They took different paths when they left home, but their hearts were tied. 2 ABOUT OUR FOUNDER: During this vibrant period, she apprenticed with PATTI PAGLIEI-SIMPSON various artists and designers, and soon began a long stint designing sets for music videos and film, While honing skills as a painter to achieve her BFA which led to story editing, producing, and then, at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers building and designing websites for a gleaming new University, Patti also fell in love with several phenomenon known as the internet. Our jewelry and display items are manufactured throughout the world in Indonesia, Thailand, Italy, and the United States. 5 STANDARD CARE INFORMATION Our jewelry is composed of sterling silver, brass, bronze, and plated silver, brass, or bronze, or any combination of these metals. Other materials which appear from time to time include leather, silk or cotton cording, semi-precious stones, pearls, crystals, and resin. All Waxing Poetic pieces are made of the finest formulas and materials available. Waxing Poetic’s signature finish is an artisanal antiqued look with oxidization; most of the pieces are not designed to be high polish. Tarnish is not a sign of poor metal quality or a product defect; it is a result of exposure to elements. Metals naturally oxidize over time and develop a normal patina from wear which is not a product defect. Texture holds more oxidization and will require regular maintenance. Examples are items with heavy engraving like Custom Collection, or texture like the Celestial Orbs, and Twisted Link Chains. Never use chemical dips. STERLING SILVER, BRASS & BRONZE Waxing Poetic uses the finest alloys for sterling silver, brass, and bronze available on the market today. Though it contains anti-tarnishing agents, all fine sterling silver does eventually tarnish with age and exposure to various elements. Brass or bronze jewelry will tarnish more quickly than sterling silver, but can easily have its shine restored. We recommend that you do not wear your jewelry in the shower, hot tub, sauna, ocean or swimming pool, as moisture accelerates the tarnishing of metal. Sometimes the chemical makeup of skin oils combined with lotions may also contribute to tarnishing, so apply fragrance and hair spray prior to putting on jewelry. Boiled brass features a naturally darker finish that develops over time and adds to the piece. These items are low maintenance as frequent polishing can remove the finish. For cleaning, or if you feel your piece is too dark, it is safe to use a polishing cloth lightly; water is not recommended. 6 PEARLS, STONES & CRYSTALS HOW TO USE A Pearls, stones, and crystals are fragile and require POLISHING CLOTH more care than other types of jewelry. Use a soft, Regular polishing with a polishing cloth along with lint-free cloth, not a polishing cloth, to wipe your proper storage will help maintain the finish and reduce jewelry after you take it off. If your pearls, stones, the natural buildup of tarnish on metals. or crystals have become dull, use a damp cloth to gently pat them clean and then let them dry flat.
