Kudumbashree Homestays Kudumbashree Always Aims to Promote Enterprises in New Sectors and Help Women Earn Better Income of Their Own
Kudumbashree Homestays Kudumbashree always aims to promote enterprises in new sectors and help women earn better income of their own. Every year, more than one crore tourists visit Kerala, the God’s Own Country. As some of them prefer to stay in ‘home stays’ to get to know more about the rural lifestyles, we put forward the idea of starting ‘HOME STAY’ as an enterprise. This initiative to motivate women entrepreneurs to start ‘home stay’ started in 2017-2018. I am happy to let you know that, within two years, 28 home stays initiated by women from Kudumbashree neighborhood group commenced operation, providing accommodation to guests. S. HARIKISHORE I A S In the first phase, we tried to identify those families who Executive Director have their own homes near the tourist spots and are Kudumbashree interested to launch enterprises by turning their own homes into home stays. Kerala Academy of Skill Excellence (KASE) gave the financial support to Kudumbashree for extending training for the entrepreneurs. We had extended training in customer care, hospitality management, business management and housekeeping to our entrepreneurs, and 28 home stays are now ready. As of now, Kudumbashree entrepreneurs have Idukki home stays at famous tourist spots like Munnar, Rain forest residency ,Kumily (9495773893) Thekkady, Alappuzha, Kumarakom, Kumbalangi Green view Homestay, Munnar (8593878395) etc. Now, more entrepreneurs have came forward Roopa Homestay, Vazhathope (9495910432) to start new ‘home stays’. We hope that through Flora leaf Homestay, Munnar (9745159505) this venture more women may secure sustainable Woodpecker Homestay, Kumily (9446609280) income. The details of the home stays by our Camel back Home stay, Kumily (9747774638) entrepreneurs, functioning in various districts Cindrella Homestay, Kumily (9496490921) across the state are given below. -

MESSAGE The Kerala State Biodiversity Board in association with the Biodiversity Management Committees - which exist in all Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporations in the State - had conducted a rapid Impact Assessment of floods and landslides on the State’s biodiversity, following the natural disaster of 2018. This assessment has laid the foundation for a recovery and ecosystem based rejuvenation process at the local level. Subsequently, as a follow up, Universities and R&D institutions have conducted 28 studies on areas requiring attention, with an emphasis on riverine rejuvenation. By stem cuttings www.thepharmajournal.com Received: 04-11-2017 Accepted: 05-12-2017 Sandeep Rout, Neelam Khare and Sashikala Beura Sandeep Rout College of Forestry, Sam Abstract Higginbottom University of An experiment was conducted during the year 2015-16 at Biotechnology-cum-Tissue Culture Centre, Agriculture Technology & OUAT, Bhubaneswar, India to induce the rooting from the stem cutting of Saraca asoca Roxb. De Wilde Sciences, Allahabad, Uttar under agro-shade net controlled condition. The selected healthy branches of Saraca asoca Roxb. De Pradesh, India Wilde was cut into 15 cm length having 4 to 5 nodes (with in thickness 0.5-1.5 cm).The base positions of cuttings were dipped in the 100,300,500 and 800 ppm of IBA (Indole-3-butyric acid), NAA (α- Neelam Khare Naphthalene-acetic-acid) and IAA (Indole-3-acetic acid) respectively for four hours along with a control College of Forestry, Sam (without treatment). Jawaharlal Nehru tropical botanic garden and research institute, Spice garden Munnar, Carmelgiri botanical garden, Vaidyaratnam P.S Varier’s Arya Vaidya Sala Kottakkal are some important places of the state to visit for the knowledge of medicin al herbs. Piper nigrum, Myristica fragrans, Elettaria cardamomum, Syzygium aromaticum, Saraca asoca are the valuable herbs having healing properties and also promote immunity against several diseases. Brhat Trayi extensively described Piper nigrum as appetizer, carminative and anti –microbial. Elettaria cardamomum is a well documented aromatic condament in Indian medicine and tradition. -

Sudhakar & G.V.S. Murthy belonging to the subgenus Pharmacosycea is described from Anamalais of the Western Ghats. Detailed description, colour photographs, illustrations, phenology, distribution, comparison with allied species, IUCN status etc. are provided.
