The English translation, published in[1] is a translation of the first version of Jansson's book, which she was later to revise. The revised version was published in It contains a number of minor differences; for instance, the Silk Monkey character is changed to a kitten. The story begins a few weeks after the events of The Moomins and the Great Floodas the Moomin family are settling into their new life in Moominvalley. Sniffwho is now living with the Moomins, discovers a mysterious path in a nearby forest. As he and Moomintroll explore it, Moomin and the Comet meet the mischievous Silk Monkey and arrive at a beach, where Moomintroll goes pearl-fishing. Meanwhile, Sniff and the Silk Monkey find a cave, and the three decide to hide Moomintroll's pearls there. The next day, as they go back to the cave, they find the pearls arranged in the shape of a star with a tail. Back at Moominhouse, the Muskrat, a philosopher whose home was ruined by Moominpappa's Moomin and the Comet and who is now staying with them, explains that the pearls depict a comet. He directs Moomintroll to the Observatory on the Lonely Mountains, where the Professors would be able to tell him whether the comet will hit the Earth. Moomintroll and Sniff set sail towards the Lonely Mountains, and on the way they meet Snufkinwho joins them. The river takes them into a cave under the mountains where they almost fall into a hole, but at the last moment a Hemulen inadvertently rescues them when Moomin and the Comet mistakes Snufkin's harmonica-playing for a rare caterpillar and reaches his butterfly net into the cave to catch it. They find themselves in the Lonely Mountains Moomin and the Comet set off towards the Observatory. On the way they are attacked by an eagle and Moomintroll finds a gold ring, which Snufkin tells him belongs to the Snork Maiden he had met a few months earlier. At the Observatory, one of the professors tells them that the comet is going to hit the Earth, Moomin and the Comet gives them the exact date and time Moomin and the Comet it's going to happen. Realising they only have a few days left, they Moomin and the Comet back towards Moominvalley, noticing that the heat from the comet's approach is starting to dry up smaller streams. In a forest they come across the Snork Maiden being Moomin and the Comet by a poisonous bush. Moomintroll saves her, and she and her brother join them. Further on, they arrive at the sea to find it all dried up. They use stilts to cross it, and the Snork Maiden saves Moomintroll from a giant octopus. On the other side of the sea they meet another Hemulen, and manage to survive a Moomin and the Comet by using his dress as a glider. Finally they arrive in Moominvalley and the whole family, together with the Hemulen, the Muskrat and the Snorks, go to the cave, making it there just in time to seek shelter from the comet. Believing the impact to have destroyed everything, they fall asleep, only to discover the next morning, to their great delight, that the comet had missed the Earth altogether and everything is back the way it used to be. Jansson's first version of the novel was published in Swedish inand was the basis for some translations, including the English translation. Jansson later revised the book, and made numerous changes in her final version, published in The updated version, which became the basis for many subsequent translations, contains numerous minor and several major edits and revisions, which include:. Jansson wrote and illustrated a black-and-white comic strip version for newspapers. The day story does not follow the book's Moomin and the Comet for example, the Moomins get their news from a radio, not a trip to the observatory, and Little My appears throughout the story, albeit often observing. In this version the comet hits Moominvalley dead on, laying the landscape bare. Right away, however, flowers bloom, and life begins again. The episodes of the stop-motion series were remastered, re-recorded with a full voice cast, and edited into the compilation movie Moomins and the Comet Chase. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I've loved the Moomins for over 60 years and was greatly looking forward to this film. Unfortunately it did nothing for me. It just didn't register at all, unlike the cartoons and TV series I remember from years ago. If I were reviewing it from a child's point of view, I would probably give it a much higher mark. I would think many children would enjoy it. So although it grew on me a little during my viewing, it had none of the magic I'd hoped for. Looking for something to watch? Background and Aim Being diagnosed with cancer is often described as a major loss of control leading to severe psychological distress and symptoms of anxiety and depression can continue to affect the individual in the long term. The cancer and its treatment may influence all dimensions of health, thus the psychosocial support provided needs to be multifaceted and easy accessed. Internet-based interventions may be one way to provide such support, but evidence is limited. This thesis aimed to investigate the design, effects, and experiences of internet-based psychosocial support in cancer. Methods and Results Study 1 encompassed a co-creation development process resulting in the interactive support provided as the first step in an internet-based stepped care intervention (iCAN-DO).

  • A Few Reflections on Beauty, Art and Artistic Creation in the Moomin Books by Tove Jansson
Imagine Being so Pretty and Getting No Happiness out of It!… on Beauty, Art and Artistic Creation in the Moomin Books by Tove Jansson Filoteknos, vol. 10 • 2020 • DOI: 10.23817/filotek.10-14 HANNA DYMEL-TRZEBIATOWSKA ORCID: 0000-0002-7753-5463 University of Gdańsk Imagine Being so Pretty and Getting No Happiness out of It! A Few Reflections on Beauty, Art and Artistic Creation in the Moomin Books by Tove Jansson Abstract: The article discusses fundamental aesthetic stances which Tove Jans- son has adopted in her Moomin books, traditionally perceived as children’s literature. Nevertheless, the series is notably multi-addressed, and analyses of numerous scenes allow us to draw conclusions about the author’s own con- cepts of beauty and art, which are accessible to more experienced readers. As the study shows, Jansson’s approach does not correspond to one specific theo- ry but rather inclines to perceptualism, emotionalism and hedonism. Further- more, the article discusses the reflections on the act of artistic creation which the artist interwove predominantly into the characterization of Moominmam- ma and Moominpappa. In the traits of these two key characters she addressed aspects of her own two artistic domains, painting and writing. However, tak- ing a stand on serious philosophical matters, she managed to retain an evident child-oriented address, demonstrating her unique mastery of double address. Keywords: Moomin books, Tove Jansson, double address, philosophical aesthetics, the act of artistic creation The first book of Tove Jansson’s nine-volume series about Moomintrolls, Små trollen och den stora översvämningen (The Moomins and the Great Flood) from 1945, is perceived as one of the crucial titles which contributed to a break- through of modern children’s literature in Sweden1 (Westin 1996: 23–31).
