    Claude Closky Nouvelles peintures 10 mars – 14 avril 2007 Vernissage le samedi 10 mars 2007, 18h - 21h “Claude Closky a réalisé trois séries de tableaux, en 2003, 2005 et 2007. Les images n’y disent pas immédiatement leur nom. La peinture oui, qui s’étale dans une planéité élémentaire. Rappelons qu’après s’être un temps assez court exclusivement employé à cette pratique, Closky a débuté en 1989 la démarche que nous connaissons aujourd’hui, en réalisant des dessins et des livres qui font état de relations particulières avec les mots et les choses. Les dessins passent avec aisance d’une littéralité élémentaire lorsqu’il représente des signes (le 2 de 25, 1991 ou Un numéro de téléphone et une plaque d’immatriculation qui se ressemblent, 1991) à une mimésis lapidaire et loufoque (Un œuf très rond, 1994). Dans ses livres, il range des mots selon des principes formels (De A à Z, 1992) ou collectionne des platitudes en forme d’histoire (Osez, 1994, Prédictions, 1996, Mon Catalogue, 1999). Très exactement, il s’intéresse à la surface des choses et aux choses de la surface, dont le langage. On pourrait avancer que ce travail — qui ne repose ni sur une technique, ni sur un format ou un support, mais sur une économie générale de la mise à plat et donc une culture de la surface — offre un prolongement métonymique à sa première activité de peintre. On aimerait avoir ainsi fait le tour de la question. (…) Lire, ou regarder, ne nous donne pas toujours accès à des messages, mais nous convoque à de nouvelles capacités d’articulation du visible, à d’infimes mouvements d’écart et de rapprochement des significations.

    Paris, 8th February 2013 Press release Contemporary art - France MARCEL DUCHAMP PRIZE Artists nominated for the 2013 Prize Farah ATASSI, Latifa ECHAKHCH Claire FONTAINE, Raphaël ZARKA Created in 2000 by the ADIAF in the aim of promoting the French artistic scene, each year the Marcel Duchamp Prize honours a French artist or an artist residing in France working in the field of the plastic and visual arts. The ambition of this collectors’ prize, organized in partnership with the Centre Pompidou, is to bring together the most innovative artists of their generation and contribute to raising their profile on the international scene. On the 7 th of February at ARTCURIAL, Gilles Fuchs, President of the ADIAF, Association for the International Diffusion of French Art, announced the names of the four artists selected for the 2013 Marcel Duchamp Prize. A first exhibition of the nominated artists will be held this summer at the Musée des Beaux-arts in the town of Libourne which will be hosting the 13 th edition of the Marcel Duchamp Prize, then in October at the FIAC. Chosen by an international jury, the award winner will be announced on Saturday, the 26th of October 2013. He or she will be invited by the Centre Pompidou for a solo show in the 315 space during the autumn of 2014.     Palazzo Venier dei Leoni 701 Dorsoduro 30123 Venezia, Italy Telephone 041 2405 411 Telefax 041 5206885 Press release NEW SCULPTURE AT THE PEGGY GUGGENHEIM COLLECTION July 4--presentation by Giovanni Carandente and Luca Massimo Barbero of works by Alexander Calder, Maurizio Nannucci, Isamu Noguchi, David Smith, Giuseppe Spagnulo Five new sculptures, including works by the greatest American sculptors of the 20th century, have been installed in the outdoor spaces of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice. The Collection is the major venue for Modernist sculpture in Italy, and the only museum where sculptures, from Alberto Giacometti and Jean Arp to Jenny Holzer and Fabrizio Plessi, from Henry Moore to Marino Marini and Anthony Caro, can be seen together. The new arrivals are by Americans David Smith, Isamu Noguchi and Alexander Calder, and by Giuseppe Spagnulo and Maurizio Nannucci, two of Italy’s leading living Italian sculptors. On 4 July 2004, 11.30 am, at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Giovanni Carandente, formerly director of the 1962 Fourth Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds and of the 1988 and 1990 Venice Biennales, and Luca Massimo Barbero, Associate Curator of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, will present the works to the public and to the press. Over the years, outdoor sculpture at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection has come to be one of its main attractions. As early as 1985 Luciano Minguzzi donated Two Figures (1950-1952) and in 1989 Mario Merz installed a neon sculpture on the principal garden wall, If the Form Vanishes, Its Root is Eternal (1982-89). In 1995 an agreement was signed with the Patsy and Raymond Nasher Foundation whereby sculpture from the Nasher Collection would be loaned for display in what is now known as The Nasher Sculpture Garden.

    Press Release Three Ball Total Equilibrium Tank and other problems JONATHAN MONK 15 June – 25 July 2020 Monday, June 15, 2020 at 6:00 pm, after the long pause caused by Covid-19 pandemic, Quartz Studio is pleased to present Three Ball Total Equilibrium Tank and other problems, an edition by Jonathan Monk (Leicester, UK, 1969), purposely conceived for the Turin non-profit space. The project of this edition, following the one of Poster (Manifesto), realized in collaboration with Maurizio Nannucci in 2014, was pending since the exhibition Cool Your Jets (2016), resulting from a dialogue between Liam Gillick and Jonathan Monk on the topics of soccer and economy. Now, within the expanded time of the health emergency, that idea finally takes shape in order to support Quartz through the production of an edition of 10 (+1 AP). On the occasion, three installations have been produced. Each of them is composed by seven hexagonal cement tiles replicating the colors of the original Quartz floor cement tiles and three balls realized in Germany in 2016, thanks to the technical advice of Giulia Mainetti from Altofragile studio, Milan. The original project for the exhibition Cool Your Jets - writes the critic Marco Scotti – was born from a conversation between Jonathan Monk and Liam Gillick, in which to the questions posed by the latter related to themes of contemporary sociology, the former replied with quotations from the world of football. The Centre Pompidou has commissioned him to create a new work, which will be on show between 17 May and 31 July in the Espace 315. Claude Closky was awarded the prize by the jury for “showing great artistic maturity in his implementation of this universal language”. Very present on the Parisian scene where he is represented by the Galerie Laurent Godin, he has participated in more than 200 international exhibitions and his work is exhibited in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the States and Japan. The artist is not unknown at the Centre Pompidou as it is he who designed the entrance ticket as well as the wallpaper in the offices.
