Kathleen Willey, an active Virginia Democrat, served as a volunteer in the Clinton White House Social Office. In 1993 she was sexually assaulted by President Bill Clinton in the Oval Office where she went to ask for a job. It was horrifying. He overpowered her and ran his hands up her skirt, over her blouse and on her breasts. Clinton put her hand on his genitals. If not for an impending meeting for which the president was late, she might not have escaped his grasp. On that same day, Kathleen's husband, overcome with financial grief, walked into the woods in a rural Virginia county and took his own life. But it was when Willey was subpoenaed as a witness to be deposed in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case against Bill Clinton, that Kathleen's horrendous problems began. Willey was subjected to a veritable terror campaign to scare her into silence. As Willey relates in her book, Target: Caught in the Crosshairs of Bill and Hillary Clinton, "they subjected me to a brutal campaign of fear and intimidation," trying to silence her. Her children were threatened by heavy handed "detectives" hired by Hillary. These goons threatened her friends' children. They took one of her cats and killed another. They left a skull on her porch. They told her she was in danger. They followed her. They vandalized her car and slashed her tires. They tried to kidnap her dogs. But this brave woman had the courage to speak out and point out Hillary's role as an accessory in Bill's sex crimes: a string of assaults and rapes against women. In fact, Kathleen Willey vowed to travel the country this year to speak out about the stunning truth about Hillary Clinton Kathleen has been an important voice in exposing Hillary Clinton's abuse of the women who got in the way of the Clintons' political agenda or their grab for power and wealth. Along with Juanita Broaddrick and Paula Jones these women must be heard by younger women thinking of voting for Hillary Although they did not carry out their physical threats against Kathleen Willey, they have tried to discredit her and destroy her personally and financially. When Kathleen wrote the first draft book about her experience with Bill and Hillary her home was burglarized and the book was stolen. Prospective employers have been pressured. The Clintons want to destroy this brave woman. With her husband having taken his own life, Kathleen Willey has since had to struggle to handle his debts and now faces the foreclosure of her home outside of Richmond. At the same time, she has kept a heavy schedule of newspaper and radio interviews, speaking the truth about the Clintons and exploding the myth that Hilary is an advocate for women.     Chapter 24 The Scandalous Fall of Feminism and the ``First Black President'' Melissa Deem Feminism is always on trial. The most recent indictments occurred during the popular coverage of the Clinton/Lewinsky affair. Ironically, this time feminism was called forth to defend itself against the charge of silence. One commentator argued that this latest indictment ``signifies the end of feminism as we know it.'' He continues, ``the once shrill voice of feminist outrage is suddenly, deafeningly still'' (Horowitz 1998). These comments represent a new trend within the popular discourses concerning feminism in the United States. This may be the first moment in history when feminists have been castigated for too little speech. The ``fall'' of Bill Clinton (which never came to completion but saturated the political public sphere for two long years) was accompanied by another antici- pated fall: the demise of feminism. Public discourse across the political spectrum heralded the ``death of feminism'' when commenting on the relative silence of feminists in regard to the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. Feminism's ``silence'' has been found especially noteworthy when contrasted to the loud anti-Republican pedagogy concerning sex and power with which feminists trumped patriarchy during the earlier Clarence Thomas and Bob Packwood scandals. Feminism may be the most visibly culpable post-1960s political movement called into question by the discourses of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal, but it is certainly not alone. Clinton has come to embody a set of complaints against feminism and post-1960s racial and class politics more generally. His embodi- ment of minoritarian politics has been striking.

Described by Clinton as a “dear friend and trusted advisor”. 7 – Ed Willey – Clinton fundraiser, found dead November 1993 deep in the woods in VA of a gunshot wound to the head.

The new media environment, by providing virtually unlimited sources of political information (although these sources do not provide anything like an unlimited number of perspectives), undermines the idea that there are discrete gates through which political information passes: if there are no gates, there can be no gatekeepers.     The Clinton/Lewinsky Story How Accurate? How Fair? Project for Excellence in Journalism 1900 M Street NW Suite 210 | Washington DC 2009 202-293-7394 | www.journalism.org Overall Summary Contrary to White House accusations, those doing the bulk of the original reporting did not ferry false leaks and fabrications into coverage of the Clinton/Lewinsky story. But in some important cases, the press leaned on the suspicions of investigators that did not hold up and downplayed the denials of the accused, according to a new study. The findings of the study, conducted by the Committee of Concerned Journalists, raise questions about whether the press always maintained adequate skepticism about its sources. There were occasions, moreover, when the press got ahead of the facts in its basic reporting. Others then used that work to engage in sometimes reckless speculation and propaganda. Overall, while the initial reporting of certain well-known stories, such as the blue dress, were proven right, and none was made out of whole cloth, it is an oversimplification to say the press has been vindicated. The study, conducted under the supervision of journalist Jim Doyle, former special assistant to the Watergate Special Prosecutors, was an attempt to discern the nature of the press coverage to date by examining several major threads of the story and comparing them to the Starr Report and its supporting evidentiary material. The goal was to make a disciplined and detailed examination of the coverage in order to balance accusations on both sides that the reporting has been proven substantiated or that it had been manipulated by misleading leaks.
