02.45 ITV Stoffel VANDOORNE (#7) (In English) “We had a quite good start and from then on I felt I was a little bit quicker than TARANCON. He made a mistake in his lap and I got the cut back on him after the first corner, and I won the race quite easily. So thanks to the team for the great work, and I’m really happy with this victory 03.03 JINGLE – THE F1 CONNECTION 03.07 VO The world of Formula 1 has arrived at Le Castellet this weekend. The French presence in F1 over the last 20 years has been inconsistent. We asked the last – and only – French F1 World Champion, Alain Prost, why this is… 03.23 ITV Alain PROST (Renault Ambassador, 4xF1 World Champion) IN FRENCH We have had a very positive cycle, then a negative cycle. Renault got into F1, then stopped, and now they’re back. And also, we maybe wanted too much to present… too soon... a new Prost… a new star. You have to let things happen naturally. I think that’s what we have done with Romain, with Charles PIC, with Jean-Eric VERGNE, who have proven themselves, have won championships and have been present at the right time, when they were needed. And France yet again carries some weight in the Formula One landscape, without, for the moment… and that’s due to the economic crisis … all the players behind us. We can see nevertheless that people are becoming more interested in France, and indirectly in the French market 04.11 ITV Roman GROSJEAN (LOTUS F1 Driver) IN FRENCH Driving with the French flag on my car is something special, and to drive a French Grand Prix would be extraordinary, in front of a home crowd in particular. The English say “Grand Prix” which is French! So our part in this story is important. Victory is clearly possible; we have come very close a few times. If it doesn’t happen this year, I’m sure it will come very soon. I hope one day to be World Champion – that is still a dream. 04.39 ITV Jean-Eric VERGNE (Red Bull Renault F1 Driver) IN FRENCH I think when you move into F1 it is always difficult. There are a huge number of things to learn. I think after the World Series, I have learnt a lot. I think it’s a great category for getting into Formula One. Someone who wins the World Series is capable of racing in Formula One… You can prepare yourself for Formula One. I have always had a lot of pressure on my shoulders with Red Bull, or even without Red Bull… if you want to get into Formula One, you have to win, so you have a lot of pressure to win… and still not have the certainty of going on to F1. So that adds a lot of pressure. I think when you arrive in F1, you’re used to that pressure, and in the end it helps you move forward more than anything.

05.22 ITV Alain PROST (Renault Ambassador, 4xF1 World Champion) IN FRENCH There are many very young drivers in the promotional formulas, the Formula Renault 2.0 and 3.5. It’s really a spawning ground. The problem that we can have is to have too many at the same time! I think we will see the good drivers emerging today, which was not always the case at a certain epoch, when some arrived with big budgets. They won, but they had the budget behind them… so it was a bit complicated. I think we have somewhat stabilised the system and that is positive. 05.54 VO Watch this space to spot the next French F1 champion…
