Five noctuid species are recorded from Europe for the first time: Eublemma conistrota Hampson, 1910, Eiiblemma deserti Rothschild, 1909, Anumeta hilgerti (Rothschild 1909), Hadiila deserticula (Hampson 1905), and Eiixoa canariensis Rebel, 1902. New synonyms are stated: Leptosia velocissima f. tarda Turati, 1926, syn. n. and Leptosia griseimargo Warren, 1912, syn. n., both synonyms of Metachrostis velox (Hübner, 1813); and Pseudohadena (Eremohadena) roseonitens espugnensis Lajonquiere, 1964, syn. n., a synonym of P. (E.) roseonitens roseonitens (Oberthür, 1887). A new subspecies of Xylena exsoleta (Linneaus, 1758), Xylena exsoleta maltensis ssp. n., is established. The literature on Maltese Noctuoidea is reviewed and erronuousely reported species are indicated. -

INTRODUCTION The fauna of noctuoid moths (the families Erebidae and Noctuidae) of Kazakhstan is still poorly studied. Only the fauna of West Kazakhstan has been studied satisfactorily (Gorbunov 2011). On the faunas of other parts of the country, only fragmentary data are published (Lederer, 1853; 1855; Aibasov & Zhdanko 1982; Hacker & Peks 1990; Lehmann et al. 1998; Benedek & Bálint 2009; 2013; Korb 2013). In contrast to the West Kazakhstan, the fauna of noctuid moths of East Kazakhstan was studied inadequately. -

Müller Abstract The Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon ridges are located in the middle of a narrow “Mediterranean ecozone” corridor stretching along the Levantine coast. Both ridges are high enough to feature a complete range of altitude zones, which includes an alpine tragacanth belt (> 2000 m a.s.l.). The southernmost part of the Anti-Lebanon ridge is situated in the northernmost part of Israel. Among the 548 Israeli Noctuidae species, 106 species (21%) occur only in this small mountainous area. Among them, 17 are endemic and the populations of the remaining 89 species are at the edge of their distribution range. -

Harvey Netherlands Institute of Ecology, Centre for Terrestrial Ecology (NIOO-CTO), Boterhoeksestraat 48, 6666 GA Heteren, The Netherlands Keywords:Hadena bicruris, Microplitis tristis, parasitoid, rearing, clutch size Abstract We describe a method for the rearing of the oligophagous herbivore Hadena bicruris, and its gregarious koinobiont endoparasitoid Microplitis tristis under laboratory conditions. With flowers from the host food plant Silene latifolia available, female moths lay on average 414 eggs during their lifetime, starting at day 3 after eggression and with a peak number per night on day 8. Caterpillars can be reared with 56 % survival on an artificial diet. Individually mated parasitoids succesfully parsitised individually presented L4 caterpillars. Clutch size of the reared parasitoids (13.4) is lower than clutch sizes found in natural populations (17.7). Age of the females might be an important factor influencing clutch size. Diapause is differently induced in the host and in the parasitoid. Under long day conditions low night temperature induces diapause in hosts but not in prasitoids. Under short day conditions both species enter diapause at low night temperature. Introduction Parasitoids constitute an important and well-studied group of insects. Their larvae develop on or inside the bodies of other arthropods, usually other insects, eventually killing the host. Most of these parasitoids are in the family Hymenoptera. -

Резюме: В настоящей работе приводятся сведения о 84 видах чешуекрылых ноктуологического комплекса, собранных нашей экспедицией в Таджикистане в 2011 году (Erebidae: 7 видов; Nolidae: 1 вид; Euteliidae: 1 вид; Noctuidae: 75 видов). 28 видов впервые приводятся для этой территории. In 2011 (13th-26th July) my friends, and myself, we participated in an entomological expedition to the Tajik Republic (about this expedition see Atalanta 43: 169-172). Here we report about the Noctuoidea species collected during this trip. The number of articles on the Noctuoidea fauna of Tajikistan is very low: GRUM-GRSHIMAÏLO (1890), FORSTER & ROSEN (1940), SHCHETKIN (1963, 1965, etc.), HACKER & PECks (1990), LEHMANN et al. (1998). Much more papers of the studied region do not exist, so the overall view (including zoogeography) of the Heterocera fauna is still very incomplete. Additional data can be extracted from numerous taxonomic papers (for example, in Esperiana, Atalanta, Nota lepidopterologica, etc.). -
