Mondo Completes the Renovation of Eight Football Pitches in L'hospitalet De Barcelona MONDO COMPLETES THE RENOVATION OF EIGHT FOOTBALL PITCHES IN L'HOSPITALET DE BARCELONA FINALLY, TALK OF CUTTING-EDGE FOOTBALL PITCHES System: DUAL XN 13 45 EF BECOMES REALITY. Quantity: 38,000 m2 Number of pitches and type of use: 8, 11-a-side football; 2, 7-a-side football Other material provided: football goals, benches Turf (Spain) This time it’s state-of-the-art artificial turf to come into play, combining the best technical features with sustainability: we’re talking about MondoTurf DUAL XN 13 45 EF, the star player in the refurbishment of eight football pitches in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona. More than 38,000 square metres of MondoTurf football artificial turf (FIFA Quality Pro certified) have replaced the decades-old pitches, reusing part of the performance infill thanks to an innovative method used to remove the artificial turf surface. EIGHT FOOTBALL PITCHES: A WINNING PROJECT 38,000 square metres of MondoTurf DUAL XN 13 45 EF synthetic turf have given a new lease of life to eight football pitches, six 11-a-side pitches and two 7-a-side pitches: Can Buxeres (one 11-a-side pitch and one 7-a-side pitch), La Florida (11-a-side), L'Hospitalet Centre (11-a-side), Provençana (11-a-side), Feixa Llarga (11-a-side), Pubilla Casas (11-a-side) and Puig i Gairalt (7-a-side). A major installation job, to which Mondo has also added the supply of new football goals and comfortable benches for the teams. The project was successfully completed, and all pitches passed the tests according to the UNE-EN 15330-1 standard for outdoor turf sports surfaces. DUAL XN ARTIFICIAL TURF FOR FOOTBALL PITCHES: PERFORMANCE AND SUSTAINABILITY COMBINED The success of the Hospitalet project is also due to the technical characteristics of an innovative product, certified by FIFA Quality Pro. The synthetic turf system with DUAL XN 13 45 EF combined yarns was created in the MONDO research laboratories and combines the advantages of 4NX monofilaments with those of the exclusive XNOVA monofilaments resulting in maximum durability, resilience, and softness. This DUAL XN synthetic turf system is therefore a balance of perfectly integrated components: the balanced morphology of XNOVA and the special elastomer used during extrusion give the fibre a high level of resilience that remains unchanged over time. The 4NX filaments, on the other hand, give the turf a higher capacity of dimensional memory, due to the ability of the fibre to quickly recover its original position after the turf has interacted with the players and the ball. Pag. 1/5 The filaments of the system are made of polyethylene (PE), lubricated, and treated with specific components that give the product a high resistance to UV rays and climatic variations, while the support with zig-zag tufting increases the resistance of the yarns to tearing. In addition to technical features and product quality, there is also respect for the environment and the health of all those who use the pitches. A comprehensive commitment throughout the entire life cycle of the system: the production of Mondo Tufting synthetic turf follows the guidelines established by the European REACH regulations (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals); Greenguard Gold certification guarantees minimal emissions of volatile chemicals; and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has confirmed the recyclability of the entire artificial turf system at the end of its life cycle. SUSTAINABLE REMOVAL: PRECISION WORK TO BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO ARTIFICIAL TURF ON FOOTBALL PITCHES The eco-sustainability of the L'Hospitalet pitches project started "behind the scenes", from the removal of the existing turf to the use of state-of-the-art technologies that reduce environmental impact. Thanks to an innovative mechanical system and high precision work, it was possible to reuse part of the performance and stabilisation fillers from the previous pitches. The type of intervention that Mondo is familiar with because it has already been applied several times in Spain and that allows, in addition to the recovery of the filler, to allocate the turf removed to new private or public uses, such as the construction of roundabouts and flower beds. After the removal of the previous turf and the installation of the new MondoTurf DUAL XN 13 45 EF synthetic turf system, the eight football fields in L'Hospitalet are ready for kickoff. In the latter half of the period (in contrast to the first half), Real Madrid won no trophies but was crowned the richest club in the world1. Meanwhile, after a disconcerting start, Barcelona won a UEFA Champions League and two La Liga titles, though it struggled financially. By analyzing the two clubs’ strategies and their financial and sporting performance over the chosen period we explore the different ways in which sports organizations can succeed, and how their success can be measured. To address this, public entities and water companies have undertaken di!er- Cent actions in water provision. In Spain, the national government prohibited disconnecting households from energy (electricity, gas) and water. The government also proposed that unpaid bills be de- ferred with no interest. Most Spanish water companies followed these options, but some cities, such as Terrassa (part of metropol- itan Barcelona) made e!orts to guarantee water supply even for those lacking legal access to housing. Terrassa has recently munici- palized water services by creating a new public water operator (Tai- gua) and a citizen observatory (the Terrassa Water Observatory). Re- sponses made by Taigua during the initial lockdown were oriented towards ensuring that citizens did not su!er any interruptions. Fur- thermore, following the closure of public fountains for sanitary rea- sons, they also urged the installation of provisional meters to vul- nerable households without access to tap water. We argue that the Terrassa model of municipalization, and particularly the existence 61 Mar Satorras, David Saurí and Hug March of systems that facilitate citizen participation and social movement engagement, has played a critical role in shaping these ambitious and radical responses to the pandemic.
