  • Politics of Abolition: Salmon P. Chase in Cincinnati by William E
As early as 1836, Salmon P. Chase joined the battle to abolish slavery. His beliefs propelled him into national politics, although more than two decades passed before the mood of the nation was receptive to the ideals he expressed in his early years in Cincinnati. The Politics of Abolition: Salmon P. Chase in Cincinnati by William E. Baringer n November, i860, Abraham Lincoln had just been elected President. The I first winner of the new Republican party, Lincoln was so little known that the nation felt an overpowering curiosity about what sort of man he was. The New York Herald and other Democratic newspapers made a "contribution" to the public's knowledge by printing a speech allegedly delivered by Lincoln to a Negro audience in Cincinnati in 1845. The speaker claimed that black Ameri- cans were the natural equals of whites, denounced as undemocratic the laws and customs that denied them equality, and received an engraved silver pitcher saluting his services to the race. Among those who read this radical oration was a Democratic legislator from Mississippi, William C. Smedes of Vicksburg. In an angry letter to Henry Jarvis Raymond of New York, Republican national chairman, Smedes declared that the holder of such views should be struck dead by lightning as "a just punishment from an offended diety." Raymond forwarded this missive to Lincoln, who repudiated the speech as "a forgery out and out.... I was never in a meeting of Negroes in my life; and never saw a pitcher presented by anybody to anybody."' The actual speaker and recipient of the pitcher on that occasion was not Lincoln but a Cincinnati attorney named Salmon Portland Chase.

All rights reserved. Ebaziya, m, 1989 Pedigree Analysis Marcel Boussac built an empire on the prominence of family 13c and effectively created a trend tried successfully around the globe ever since. Ebaziya was sired by Darshaan (13c) out of Ezana (13c) adds to the legacy of deep line breeding to family 13c. Taproot mare Tourzima was also bred by Marcel Boussac. However, his passion or promise for family 13c pushed him to practice intense inbreeding as seen in Tourzima whose sire, Tourbillon and dam, Djezima were both out of full sisters – Heldifan and Durban. Tourzima incidentally was fourth dam of Ebaziya and fifth dam of Darshaan. A milder variation of deep line breeding is common in modern bloodline and visible in matching of top sires Seattle Slew and Mr Prospector. Top sires Pulpit, Malibu Moon, Quality Road, Elusive Quality, etc.. have direct link to patterns practiced by the great French breeder and textile magnate. There are more factors involved within the inner workings of Ebaziya’s class but we feel obliged to highlight one of the most obvious. It helps that the family has a dearth of talent evident in historic accomplishments with Sindarr wins in Epsom Derby, Irish Derby and Arc de Triomphe in 2000. Ebaziya’s made her mark in history with her foals, as she produced four Group 1 winners including Ireland’s Champion Older Mare, Ebadiyla in 1998.

COMPILED SPECIFICALLY FOR Tempo BROODMARE ANALYSIS REPORT A broodmare’s nicking analysis with up to 50 potential stallions Copyright © 2011 The Jockey Club Information Systems, Inc. BROODMARE ANALYSIS REPORT TrueNicks: An Explanation Nicks in History Compatibilities between stallions from one sire line with mares of another sire line has helped shape the breed since the Eclipse/Herod cross of the late 18th century. These successful crosses, called nicks, have impacted Thoroughbred development through such examples as Hermit/Stockwell, Lexington/Glencoe, Bend Or/Macaroni, and Phalaris/Chaucer. In the modern era, the prolific Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross has produced outstanding racehorses and sires such as Kingmambo, Distorted Humor, and Elusive Quality. Fast-Forward to the 21st Century Computer databases have made it possible to measure and rate nicks, giving rise to a commercial market for such statistics. The first nick ratings offered to the public, though popular, were compromised by incomplete data and yielded results based on hypothetical rather than actual opportunity. This statistical gap was the impetus behind the development of TrueNicks. A Statistically Valid Approach Unlike other ratings that are calculated based on hypothetical opportunity within a limited group of horses, TrueNicks references the international database of The Jockey Club—the world’s most complete record of Thoroughbreds and their performance—to produce a sophisticated rating based on all starters and stakes winners on a given cross. The Statistics The TrueNicks rating is derived from two statistical elements: the Sire Improvement Index (SII) and the Broodmare Sire Improvement Index (BSII). Each figure compares the percentage of progeny stakes winners to starters.

Preface by: M. Nostradamus to his Prophecies Greetings and happiness to César Nostradamus my son Your late arrival, César Nostredame, my son, has made me spend much time in constant nightly reflection so that I could communicate with you by letter and leave you this reminder, after my death, for the benefit of all men, of which the divine spirit has vouchsafed me to know by means of astronomy. And since it was the Almighty's will that you were not born here in this region [Provence] and I do not want to talk of years to come but of the months during which you will struggle to grasp and understand the work I shall be compelled to leave you after my death: assuming that it will not be possible for me to leave you such [clearer] writing as may be destroyed through the injustice of the age [1555]. The key to the hidden prediction which you will inherit will be locked inside my heart. Also bear in mind that the events here described have not yet come to pass, and that all is ruled and governed by the power of Almighty God, inspiring us not by bacchic frenzy nor by enchantments but by astronomical assurances: predictions have been made through the inspiration of divine will alone and the spirit of prophecy in particular.
