Rancho will look to STANDINGS extend their season long winning streak to four games with a win tonight. After the highest scoring game of the season for the Quakes offense last night, Rancho will look to build on it as they face a tough test on the mound in Carlos Guarate. NORTH W L PCT GB LAST NIGHT’S GAME: Rancho’s offense was in rare form last night, as they set a season-high in runs and hits on their way to a 15-4 Fresno 21 10 .677 - drubbing of the Lake Elsinore Storm. The offense started with solo home runs by Eddys Leonard and Alex De Jesus, but the Quakes San Jose 20 11 .633 1 really ran away with this one in the fifth. Rancho started the inning with seven straight batters reaching safely and five runs coming Modesto 19 12 .613 2 across to score before the first out was recorded. That was only the half of it, as Rancho added five more runs in the inning to make it Stockton 12 19 .387 9 an even ten runs in the inning. The fifth inning was capped off by a Jorbit Vivas grand slam. This was the fifth home of the season for Vivas, and his first grand slam. The Storm would get a few runs back as they trimmed the deficit to eight runs at one point. Rancho SOUTH W L PCT GB Rancho Cucamonga added three more runs in the ninth inning, as position player Zack Mathis was on the mound for the Storm for the final two innings 17 13 .567 - Inland Empire 14 16 .467 3 of the game. Rancho’s Carlos Alejo (1-0) recorded his first win of the season, and Adolfo Ramirez got his first save, as he pitched the Lake Elsinore 14 17 .452 3.5 final four innings. With the win, Rancho remains perfect on Tuesday games, as they are now 6-0 on series-opening games this season. Visalia 6 25 .194 11.5 OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION: Rancho scored a season-high ten runs in the fifth inning, and sent a season-high 14 batters to the plate in that inning. The Quakes mustered 22 hits in the ball game, and seven hits in the fifth inning alone. Jorbit Vivas tied a Quakes TODAY record, as he went 6-for-6 in the game last night and tied a record set by former Padres OF Mike Darr in 1997. These are the most hits Inland Empire at Visalia, 6:00 PM a Quakes player has had in a game since the Dodgers became the Quakes Major League affiliate. Vivas tallied five singles and a Rancho Cucamonga at Lake Elsinore, 6:35 PM grand slam in this one, the grand slam capped off the ten-run fifth for Rancho and gives the Quakes three slams on the year. A few San Jose at Stockton, 7:05 PM streaks were extended last night as well, as Diego Cartaya has tallied a hit in each game he has played for Rancho, giving him a nine- Fresno at Modesto, 7:05 PM game hitting streak. Jonny DeLuca had himself a triple in the game last night, upping his current hitting streak to eight games now. Both of these guys have been red-hot in the middle of the Quakes order, with Cartaya blasting three home runs last week alone. ONE-QUARTER MARK: Last night’s win means the Quakes have played 25% of their 2021 season (30/120). Baseball America released a story yesterday, that playoffs (which had been eliminated because of the pandemic this year) may now be possible in 2021. While this hasn’t been made official yet, the Quakes would be in good shape, as they lead the South Division by three full games. TOMORROW OFFENSIVE RANKINGS: The Quakes are leading the league in various offensive categories, including the most home runs in the Inland Empire at Visalia, 6:00 PM league with a team total of 33 after they blasted three on Tuesday. Rancho is also leading Low-A West in doubles with 63, and runs Rancho Cucamonga at Lake Elsinore, 7:05 PM batted in, with a total of 161 this year. Rancho has also scored the most runs in the league with 186 total runs so far. San Jose at Stockton, 7:05 PM THE CLOCK STARTS: Last night was the first time that the new pitch clock was not just running, but was in full effect. The game Fresno at Modesto, 7:05 PM definitely felt sped up through the first four innings as both pitchers worked with exceptional speed as they tried to stay ahead of the newly implemented pitch clock. This will be the new normal for the rest of the season, as pitchers get 15 seconds to throw a pitch CAL LEAGUE SCOREBOARD with no runners on base, and 17 seconds when there is a runner on base. As the season goes on, pitchers will have to find a way to get comfortable on the mound with the clock ticking down. SUNDAY GAVIN STONE: This will be Gavin Stone’s sixth start of the year, and his seventh appearance on the mound this year. In his last Rancho Cucamonga 15 Lake Elsinore 4 appearance, Stone went 3.2 innings and allowed one unearned run and one hit against Inland Empire. Stone pitched against Lake Inland Empire 8 Visalia 1 Elsinore in their last head-to-head series on May 22nd. Stone pitched behind an opener in that game, going two innings and allowing San Jose 7 Stockton 5 three runs on three hits. Stone was a fifth-round selection out of Central Arkansas in the shortened 2020 MLB Draft. Fresno 9 Modesto 1 CARLOS GUARATE: The Storm will look to rebound after last night by sending Guarate to the mound for his seventh start of the season, as he has only appeared as a starter so far this season. In his last start Guarate pitched five shut as out innings and allowed just three hits against the Stockton Ports. He struggled against the Quakes in his one start against them, as he allowed three runs on seven hits over four innings. Guarate has pitched 25 innings this season so far, he has tallied 25 and has only allowed 2 walks this season so far. The Tulsa Drillers vs Lake Elsinore: 5-2 scored three in both the seventh and eighth innings to get an 8-3 win over the Wichita Surge. The Oklahoma City Dodgers got a 9-6 vs L. E. Home 0-0 win over the Sugar Land Skeeters. Oklahoma City has improved to 13-17 on the season, as they have rallied from a very slow start to vs L.E. Road 5-2 the season. The Dodgers got a win in their first game of the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, as Walker Buehler hurled seven shut Home Record: 9-9 out innings, logging his fifth win of the season.
