The Seahawks finished 2-12 in 1976, when they played in the NFC, and 5-9 in 1977, when they moved into the AFC. The Seahawks had winning 9-7 records in both 1978 and 1979 and Patera was named NFL Coach of the Year the second year. The strike-shortened 1982 season proved to be a transitional year for all of pro football, but no club fit the transitional description better than the Seahawks. WHEREAS, after making an inspired playoff run to the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship Game in 2019, the Tennessee Titans, one of the most beloved and most dynamic football teams in this State's illustrious gridiron history, excelled once again in 2020 to claim the AFC South Division championship with an impressive 11-5 record; and WHEREAS, to the great delight of their many fans across the Volunteer State, the 2020 Titans featured a potent offense that ranked second overall in yards gained and fourth overall in points scored and the leading rusher, Derrick Henry, in the National Football League (NFL); and WHEREAS, the Titans began the 2020 season in high gear with five consecutive wins, including three victories of three points or less, an overtime thriller against Houston, and a 42-16 blowout of the AFC East Division champion Buffalo Bills; and WHEREAS, after faltering in mid-season, the Titans posted an exciting overtime win against Baltimore, revenged a loss to division-rival Indianapolis, destroyed Jacksonville and Detroit, and once again bested Houston to finish the season on a 5-2 winning streak; and WHEREAS, in Week 17, replacement kicker Sam Slocum converted a field goal as time expired to claim both the victory over Houston and the AFC South crown; and WHEREAS, in addition to King Henry's 2,027 yards and seventeen touchdowns on the ground, the Titans were fortunate to have the arm and leadership of quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who threw thirty-three touchdown passes, rushed for seven additional scores, and posted the sixth-best quarterback rating in the NFL; and HJR0027 001486 - 1 - WHEREAS, his outstanding targets included tight end Jonnu Smith with forty-one catches for 448 yards and eight touchdowns and two emerging wide receivers who had career years; and WHEREAS, second-year wideout A.J.

However, the Oakland Raiders did not become the eighth member of the new league until January 1960, when they were selected as a replacement for the Minneapolis franchise, which defected to the NFL. A major initial stumbling block was the lack of an adequate stadium in Oakland. Until the 54,616 capacity Oakland Coliseum was opened in 1966, the Raiders had to play in Kezar Stadium and Candlestick Park across the bay in San Francisco and in a temporary stadium, Frank Youell Field, in Oakland. Oakland’s record for the first three years was a miserable 9-33-0. Average home attendance was just under 11,000. Then in 1963, the Raiders hired a San Diego assistant coach, Al Davis, as their new head coach and the reversal in fortunes was both rapid and dramatic. From a 1-13 mark in 1962, Oakland improved to 10-4 in 1963 and Davis was named the AFL Coach of the Year. Since that time, the Raiders’ destiny has been the exclusive responsibility of Davis, who left the team only briefly for a short term as AFL commissioner in 1966. After the AFL-NFL merger was completed, Davis returned to the Raiders as managing general partner and immediately transformed the Las Vegas franchise into one of pro football’s premier organizations. Starting in 1965, the Raiders posted winning records 19 of the next 20 years.
