PRE-MATCH REPORT ENGLAND vs SCOTLAND GUINNESS SIX NATIONS 2021 HEAD TO HEAD - The last time England hosted Scotland in the Six Nations they drew 38-38, the visitors clawing back the biggest ever half-time deficit (-24 pts, 7-31) by a side to avoid defeat in the tournament’s history, almost snatching victory before a late George Ford try levelled the match. - Scotland have never beaten England at Twickenham in the Six Nations (D1, L9), their last victory against them there came in 1983 in the Five Nations (22-12). - England have lost just one of their last 12 Six Nations clashes with Scotland (W9, D2), that defeat coming at BT Murrayfield in 2018; overall England have lost just four times against Scotland in the Six Nations (also 2000, 2006 and 2008). - England defeated Scotland 13-6 at a wet and windy BT Murrayfield in the 2020 Six Nations – that match saw Eddie Jones’ side lead 3-0 at halftime, the joint lowest scoring half in a Six Nations game (level with Scotland v Ireland in 2013 and England v Ireland in 2014). - England and Scotland first faced each other 150 years ago, in 1871, with Scotland winning in Edinburgh in what was the first international rugby union fixture. Lions), one of just six men to reach that milestone (also D Carter, J Wilkinson, N Jenkins, R O’Gara, D Dominguez); Farrell is just four points away from scoring his 100th against Scotland, they’d be the seventh nation he’s reached a century of Test points against (also Australia, Wales, South Africa, Italy, Ireland, France). Introduction In this project, I am going to either prove or disprove two hypotheses: • firstly, that the position of a rugby player will make a difference to what they think a great captain is; and • secondly, that for a captain to be great, they do not have to be the best in their position. I will prove or disprove these hypotheses through the following research: • conducting semi-quantitative surveys • reading and analysing 4 great rugby captains’ autobiographies (qualitative research) and their views on leadership and captaincy • and finally wider online research. Rugby is a sport and subject that I am very passionate about, and I aspire to play at the highest level. Currently I play for Hampton U13 Bs and my club (Twickenham) first team. I find captaincy interesting as I think it takes great skill and certain characteristics to be a good captain let alone a country-leading world-famous great captain. My personal experiences of rugby captaincy have been periodically with my school team and regularly for my club. My personal view of rugby captaincy based on my experiences is that you need to be the hardest-working player on the pitch at all times – you may not be the most skilled, but you can be the hardest-working, and respect from your team- mates and from your coaches comes from this work ethic.

Following last week’s update on Twickenham Riverside the “Twickenham Lido” petition, advocating sport and leisure on the disputed site became very active with an additional eighty people signing and making comments. These are individual residents - now 4,243 supporters of “Twickenham lido”, who the Council do not seem to hear. However, a question asked is will the Council give in to public opinion or will minority groups in a small area of Twickenham win the day? The Council consultation at the moment consists of a “Stakeholders Group”. Those of us interested in Twickenham Riverside are all stakeholders but a number of the groups invited to consult with the Council seem to be connected with Eel Pie Island - a car-free island, where people appear to want to keep vehicles on the Embankment rather than looking at alternative parking.
