Susanna married Master John Hall, a physician, in 1607. They had a baby called Elizabeth in 1608. They had Hall's Croft built between 1613 and 1614. Find out more at www.widgit.com Page 1 of 11 Shakespeare Birthplace Trust The house changed during the next 400 years. It was extended, became a school and a home for actors. The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust bought Hall's Croft in 1949. It was repaired and opened two years later. Ground Floor: Entrance Hall You can see the original stone fireplace and floor tiles. Find out more at www.widgit.com Page 2 of 11 The entrance door was made in the 1800's. The original entrance was in the parlour. Ground Floor: Parlour The parlour was the best room. Important guests were entertained in the parlour. We have decorated the parlour so you can see how wealthy it was. You can still see the original staircase to the top floor. Ground Floor: Dispensary Display John Hall would visit patients in their homes. He mixed remedies using plants, herbs, gems and rocks. You can see an expensive bed and cupboards. You can see a stool box, an old fashioned toilet. You can see an old painting of a mother and child. First Floor: Elizabeth's Room This room is decorated as Elizabeth's room. Elizabeth was John and Susanna's daughter. The chair has the original velvet. Some of the window glass is from the 1600s. She was William Shakespeare's last descendant. Outside: Garden Lots of herbs grew in the garden. John used the herbs in remedies. The herbs were also used for cooking, dyeing and brewing.
