La pregunta no es: «¿Participará en algo que involucre a otros?» La pregunta es: «¿Se involucrará con otros para tener éxito?» La respuesta podrá encontrarla en este libro. Todos sabemos que trabajar en equipo es algo bueno; más que bueno, ¡es esencial! ¿Pero cómo se logra esto? ¿Qué es lo que hace que un equipo tenga éxito? ¿Por qué algunos equipos ascienden rápidamente a las cumbres más altas del éxito y ven cómo su visión se hace realidad, mientras que otros parecen no ir a ninguna parte? Estas son preguntas que no tienen una respuesta fácil. Si así fuera, los deportes tendrían más campeones mundiales y la lista de las compañías de Fortuna 500 nunca cambiaría por más años que pasen. Uno de los desafíos de aprender acerca del trabajo en equipo es que aun las personas que han llevado equipos a los niveles más altos en sus respectivos campos, a veces tienen que enfrentar la dura tarea de poner su dedo en el punto que separa a un gran equipo de una colección de individuos que no logran funcionar unidos. Alguien quizás diga que la clave del triunfo es un fuerte trabajo ético. ¿Pero no ha conocido usted a muchas personas que trabajan muy duro de forma individual pero que nunca se unieron para alcanzar su potencial plenamente? Otros creen que los grandes equipos surgen de una buena química. Dicen: «No puedo explicar cómo lo creas, pero definitivamente lo reconozco cuando lo veo». ¿Cómo aprender de eso para establecer su propio equipo? Como un comunicador que pasa cada año horas incontables hablando a audiencias vivas, siempre estoy buscando las vías más directas para enseñar verdades complejas. Eso es lo que hace un comunicador: tomar algo complicado y hacerlo sencillo.
