Welcome by Head Teacher Dear Parent It is with pleasure that I welcome you to Kirkmichael Primary. I hope you find this handbook useful and informative. If however, after reading it you have some queries, please do not hesitate to contact myself, any member of staff or the school office and we will do our best to help you. Here at Kirkmichael we strive to create a purposeful and caring atmosphere in which our pupils want to learn and want to succeed. Pupils are encouraged to take a pride in themselves and in their surrounding environment. Our energies and expertise are focused towards developing our pupils academically and socially and preparing them as fully as possible for the next stage in their education. We aim to help our pupils become successful learners, confident individuals, effective communicators and responsible citizens. You will have many opportunities to visit the school in the coming years and to meet the people who are important in your child’s education. Can we take this opportunity of stressing the importance of keeping in touch with the school. It is always best to contact us if you have any questions about school life, no matter how small or trivial they may seem. We give you our assurance that if we have any concerns about your child, you will always be contacted sooner rather than later. The school will always welcome you and we encourage you to participate in many of our varied activities. When a child joins us at Kirkmichael, we are all entering a new partnership with the aim of producing the best education for your child. School Ethos, Aims and Values WE AIM TO CREATE A POSITIVE ETHOS BY WHICH: all pupils are provided for equally there is an atmosphere of trust and co-operation between staff and pupils there is a safe, relaxed and happy teaching environment staff, pupils and parents are valued visitors are welcomed staff and pupils are encouraged and motivated as fully as possible 2. WE AIM TO PROVIDE A STIMULATING AND APPROPRIATE CURRRICULUM FOR OUR PUPILS WHICH WILL BE: staffed and resourced effectively well planned and evaluated delivered using a variety of teaching approaches broad, balanced and will provide continuity effective in ensuring pupils achieve the highest possible standards according to their abilities. 3. WE AIM TO IMPROVE THE STANDARD OF ATTAINMENT WITH THE SCHOOL BY: promoting an ethos of achievement setting targets in literacy and numeracy in line with National Policy monitoring pupil attainment closely through Early Intervention methods, appropriate diagnostic testing and National Tests. 4. WE AIM TO ASSIST OUR PUPILS PERSONAL & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT BY: building self esteem promoting an appreciation of people and property developing controlled, responsible behaviour fostering an awareness of the importance of physical and mental health and fitness developing study skills and habits of individual study 5.
