Brevipalpus Chilensis Baker (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) Capítulo 11 Brevipalpus chilensis Baker (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) Denise Navia, Renata Santos de Mendonça, Roberto Trincado Identificação da praga • Nome científico: Brevipalpus chilensis Baker, 1949. Posição taxonômica: • Filo: Arthropoda. • Subfilo: Chelicerata. • Classe: Arachnida. • Subclasse: Acari. • Ordem: Trombidiformes (Prostigmata). • Superfamília: Tetranychoidea. • Família: Tenuipalpidae Berlese. • Subfamília: Tenuipalpinae Sayed. 156 PRIORIZAÇÃO DE PRAGAS QUARENTENÁRIAS AUSENTES NO BRASIL • Tribo: Tenuipalpini Berlese. Abstract: The functional response of the phytoseiid predator Chileseius camposi González y Schuster, 1962 (Acarina:Phytoseiidae) on densities of its prey Panonychus ulmi (Koch, 1836) was evaluated under controlled temperature (20 ± 2 ºC),, relative humidity (75 ± 15%) and photoperiod (16:8h L:D). A functional type II response was displayed (Holling’s disk). Holling, Wolf transformation and Rogers models gave similar values for estimating parameters of the Holling’s disk equation; however, estimates produced by the Livdahl and Stiven model were higher. Values of attack rate and handling time can be considered within the normal range for phy- toseiid generalists.

Abstract Phytoseiulus macropilis Banks (Acari: Phytoseiidae) and Balaustium hernandezi von Heyden (Acari: Erythraeidae) have been identified as candidate augmentative biological control agents for the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae). The two-spotted spider mite is a significant pest of many commercial crops, including those grown in glasshouses. This study investigated the potential of both species to survive a typical northern European winter, and risk of establishment. The thermal thresholds of each species were also assessed to determine the efficacy of the predator in a horticultural system. Through a combination of laboratory and field trials, P.

ABSTRACT Amblyseius swirskii and Phytoseiulus longipes are targeted as biological control agents for the horticultural pest Tetranychus urticae. This study applies a standardised protocol to evaluate the risk of establishment of introduced species and investigates temperature related behavioural thresholds for all three species. Laboratory results demonstrate a low level of cold tolerance in A. swirskii and no diapause. Field studies recorded 100% mortality within two weeks of outdoor winter exposure. Amblyseius swirskii has a higher activity threshold temperature than it’s target prey T. urticae. Amblyseius swirskii lacks cold tolerance and is unlikely to establish outdoors and thus can be considered a ‘safe candidate’ for release. Laboratory results demonstrate that P. longipes can not diapause yet is more cold tolerant than A.

Previous concepts of setal nomenclature are critically analysed. The majority of these efforts were mostly restricted to a limited taxonomic group and therefore limited in use, although most concepts aimed towards general application. For the revised setal nomenclature, embryonic development was analysed. A decisive process is the formation of the gnathosoma with a separation from the subsequent idiosoma segments. In the anterior part of the idiosoma, the segements of legs I, II, III and IV develop, furthermore those of the genital segment consisting of the fused segments 7 and 8. The posterior part of the idiosoma comprises the segments 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. The parts of the dorsal shield should be named prodorsum and postdorsum, the parts of the ventral idiosoma sternum and venter. Transverse rows of setae and gland pores allow residues of the ancestral body segmentation to be recognised. On the dorsum of basal derivative Gamasina groups, 10 transverse rows of setae are clearly differentiated. On the dorsum we refer to four pairs of longitudinal rows with a tranverse division in five rows on the prodorsum and five rows on the postdorsum.

Abstract Global trade has increased the invasion risk of exotic organisms and damaged agricultural and natural ecosystems. The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) handles quarantine services of animal- and plant-associated pests and diseases in Taiwan. The predatory mite family Phytoseiidae (Acari: Mesostigmata) is a well- known group due to the potential use of certain species as biocontrol agents for small phytophagous pests. Some species are available in commercial markets and frequently used in biological control in many agricultural systems, especially in greenhouse crops. However, exotic biological control agents may interfere with natural or naturalised populations of predatory mites and they may threaten indigenous populations via intraguild predation. The present study aims to provide a checklist of phytoseiid mite species found in plant quarantine from 2006–2013.

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Global trade has increased the invasion risk of exotic organisms and damaged agricultural and natural ecosystems. The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) handles quarantine services of animal- and plant-associated pests and diseases in Taiwan. The predatory mite family Phytoseiidae (Acari: Mesostigmata) is a well-known group due to the potential use of certain species as biocontrol agents for small phytophagous pests. Some species are available in commercial markets and frequently used in biological control in many agricultural systems especially in greenhouse crops. However, exotic biological control agents may interfere with native or naturalized populations of predatory mites and they may threaten indigenous populations via intraguild predation. The present study aims to provide the phytoseiid mite species found in plant quarantine from 2006–2013. Twenty-five species belonging two subfamilies and eight genera were found in samples imported to Tawan from twelve countries, including one new species Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) ueckermanni sp.
