ISO 9001:2008 CERTIFIED NEWSPAPER 22 March 2014 21 Jumadal I 1435 - Volume 19 Number 5611 Price: QR2 ON SATURDAY Missing plane’s debris may never be found LONDON: Even if the two unidentified objects shown on satellite images floating in the southern Indian Ocean are debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines plane, finding them could prove to be a long and difficult process that may rely on luck as much as on advanced technology, oceanographers and aviation experts have warned. If the objects are recovered, locating the rest of the Boeing 777 on the ocean floor could turn out to be harder still. And if the remains can eventually be pieced together, working out exactly what happened to flight MH370 may be the toughest job of all. WE PLAYED MORE CRICKET THAN THIS GENERATION NEW DELHI, MONDAY 18 MARCH 2019 There is a feeling in cricketing fraternity that a choc-a-bloc international calender comprising three formats leave youngsters with very little time to work on their game. However the leg- 16 endary Shane Warne believes otherwise at a time when workload management has been the buzzword in many countries including India. We played more cricket than this generation. We played more days of cricket, even though it was first-class cricket. What's the complication nowa- days is the travel and different formats that they have to adjust to. But in terms of pure balls bowled and days played, yesteryears' players used to play more, Warne said. Warne then cited an example of his playing days for Australia, Victoria and Hampshire. There used to be a Sheffield Shield game for Victoria, then a Test match and we would again go back and play for Victoria. Now they have breaks, they have got Big Bash, so that's a fact, said Warne, who bowled an astound- ing 92,797 legal deliveries in senior level cricket and took 1862 wickets. Robin Walsh was President from the foundation of the organisation at Stormont in 2007 until he stepped down early in 2013 to take up the Presidency of Cricket Ireland. The CWI are immensely proud that one of our number should be recognised thus and doubly so that Robin filled the role with such dignity and commitment. It turned out to be both a tremendously successful year on the pitch and a historic one off it, and we are fortunate that a man with a trained eye and stylish pen was there to witness it all — and share it with us. Throughout his presidency Robin wrote a regular diary which appeared on the Cricket Ireland website but it clearly deserves a larger audience and a permanent place on the growing shelf of Irish cricketing literature. And that’s why you’re reading this now. ‘Mine’s a Treble’ © Robin Walsh May 2014 Published by the Cricket Writers of Ireland Designed and edited by Ger Siggins Photographs by Barry Chambers.
