The upgrade is a vital piece of enabling infrastructure for the $1.5 billion Project Sea Dragon. Project Sea Dragon is planned to be Australia’s largest aquaculture project, potentially producing over 100 000 tonnes of Black Tiger Prawns per year and creating 1 500 jobs in north Australia. The Keep River Road is a key link in the transport logistics for the project, which is located on Legune Station near the Northern Territory’s border with Western Australia, about 110 kilometres from Kununurra. Project Sea Dragon will include production ponds at Legune Station, breeding facilities in Darwin and a processing plant near Kununurra. Stage 1 of the project includes 1 080 hectares of production ponds, increasing to about 2 100 hectares in Stage 2. Seafarms Group Limited Executive Director Dr Chris Mitchell welcomed the funding commitment to upgrade the Keep River Road after it was recognised as a priority in the Northern Australia White Paper.     TIGER BRENNAN DRIVE TRAFFIC CHANGE The duplication of Tiger Brennan Drive jointly funded by the Australian and Northern Territory governments is nearing completion. This weekend, all motorists travelling along Tiger Brennan Drive between Berrimah Road and Woolner Road will be moved over to the newly constructed section of road. This traffic change will start to take effect early Saturday morning. It will be in place until project completion. Traffic diversion points will be in place near the Woolner Road intersection and the Berrimah Road intersection. Single lane traffic will flow in each direction and reduced speed limits will be in place. Winnellie changes Access into and out of Winnellie from Tiger Brennan Drive will be via Woolner Road and Bowen Street only. Benison Road will be closed to traffic from Tiger Brennan Drive to Bishop Street. There will be no access to Hook Road from Tiger Brennan Drive. You will still be able to access Amy Johnson Avenue and Hidden Valley Road from new road way. Allow extra time Road users are asked to allow for extra time when using Tiger Brennan Drive as delays are likely. Consider an alternative route where possible, such as the Stuart Highway if travelling from the Northern Suburbs of Palmerston or the rural area.
