“Then Sings My Soul: Songs that Sustain Our Faith--Second Verse”

Return Service Requested I grew-up in the church, and since I grew-up in the church, it probably doesn’t surprise you that I grew-up singing in the church. In fact, I grew-up in a family that had always sang in the church. My granddaddy Smith was a General Baptist preacher. Long before I was ever born, his wife, my Mamaw Smith, would play the piano, my grandad would sing bass along with my dad and one of his sisters comprising the Smith Family Quartet. They would sing often wherever my grandfather preached—in church, at a tent revival, on the radio. He preached the gospel and they sang the gospel. June 12-15 Kentucky Annual Conference As a child, I can remember gathering around the upright piano at family gatherings and singing Sloan Convention Center some of the old gospel songs—“Jesus is Coming Soon,” “Just a Little Talk with Jesus,” “I’ll Fly Bowling Green, KY Away.” When my Mamaw Smith passed away, my two sisters, Joy, Jonna and I sang “Because He Lives” at her funeral. As you can imagine, I never sing that song without thinking fondly of my Mamaw Smith. June 17 As a youth, I sang in my church’s youth choir, “The Kingdom Choir.” We traveled to other 12:00 p.m. Circuit Writer Deadline churches to sing at revivals, youth gatherings and fundraisers. To be honest, we weren’t very good, but as you know, it is always very good, then and now, to see young people singing for God, so people were very kind. When I got to Kentucky Wesleyan College, I naturally found a June 19 few friends who enjoyed singing and we had a little college group, not big enough nor good enough to even have a name, but good enough and big enough to drive ourselves to churches to Happy State Street Staff sing, share our faith and represent the college. Those were good times. Father’s Day!

Senior Pastor One of the things I have always loved as a pastor is planning worship each week. It is a sacred ~ Dr. Jay Smith task to try and discern with musically gifted people, like Lee and Julie, what hymns and songs to Associate Pastor for Faith sing in order to strengthen our worship focus on any given Sunday.
