Scottish Singer Amelia Jocelyn Is Set to Release Her First Album 'Bonnie Songs from the West of Scotland' on the 2Nd December Contact: [email protected] +44 (0)7902 127551 www.ameliajocelyn.com Scottish singer Amelia Jocelyn is set to release her first album 'Bonnie Songs from the West of Scotland' on the 2nd December. 22 year old Amelia Jocelyn is a singer songwriter from the west coast of Scotland near Glasgow. After recently graduating from the Glasgow Academy of Music and Sound, Amelia is set to release her first album, 'Bonnie Songs from the West of Scotland’. Inspired by her local surroundings, the album will be a tribute to the local area featuring songs like Ae Fond Kiss by Robert Burns, Rothesay O' and Song O' the Clyde. The album will be the first insight into Amelia's folk roots and features the songs she grew up hearing and singing. She has captivated the essence of these well-known traditional folk songs and brought them into the twenty-first century with a beautiful live sound and gentle instrumentation. The songs perfectly showcase her soft voice and a stunning musical performance from her and her band. The album is set to be launch on the 2nd of December at The Sangha House, Taunton and will be available on presale at www.ameliajocelyn.com. It will be made officially available for purchase on major platforms on the 12th of December. Musical Influences Amelia has many influences including Jack Savoretti, Norah Jones and Paolo Nutini which can be heard in her first release 'I Hear Rumours', an EP of original songs. She has more recently been influenced by the likes of Eva Cassidy and Eddi Reader as she revisits her folk upbringing. Amelia can be heard playing venues across Central Scotland including The Beacon Theatre, Greenock, The Classic Grand, Glasgow and Bute Brewery. She is planning to tour the UK next year. Not even Shakespeare is remembered so personally with an annual birthday celebration. It's in the spirit of the lasting inspiration of Scotland's National Poet that we invite you to celebrate Burns Night. We've outlined the elements of a traditional Burns Supper below, but invite you to consider giving it a modern twist by incorporating a contemporary menu or playing modern interpretations of Burns songs. Whisky, of course, is a mandatory part of any Burns Supper and eminent whisky writer Charlie MacLean has given recommendations to accompany both the traditional and the nouvelle suppers. IMMORTAL MEMORY He spoke from the heart to the heart. He makes you laugh, he makes you cry. Note the change to the present tense. There's something immortal about Burns: his words, his melodies, his humanity, his spirit. Scottish artist Steven Campbell sees parallels between Burns and contemporary rock superstars like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen and at an exhibition at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in 2000, Campbell portrayed Burns wearing Armani suits and looking very hip.

Dallas Folk Implosion - Dallas Observer 3/16/12 3:39 PM Folk Implosion On her latest album, Eddi Reader stays true to her Simple Soul By Jessica Parker published: March 01, 2001 Songs with meaning were once an occupational requisite for anyone taking the stage; now, they're restricted to the catalogs of "serious" musicians. Thoughtful storytelling has been eliminated from pop music, and until Jewel's next album, folk music will continue to be ignored by the masses. This dire state of affairs makes Simple Soul, the latest album from the gifted Eddi Reader, all the more welcome. The strength of an Eddi Reader song is not only her perfectly breathtaking voice but the story that unfolds with each allegorical verse. “I’m just hoping that it heals other people, or that people "I like the old French song where you'd have a story of maybe get off on it, in the same way that I do,” Eddi Reader says, referring to her new album. a prostitute walking the streets and finding love," Reader says, on the phone from her London home. Further describing her early songwriting days with collaborator Mark E. Nevin, she says, "We'd write songs about going to see a fortuneteller in a fairground, and she would tell you that the man you were in love with was a waste of time and you wouldn't believe her. The last line would always be that you would see the man, and you realized by looking in his eyes that what she was saying was the truth.
