Creation of an extensible, detector-independent toolkit (RAVE) for vertex reconstruction, to be embedded into various environments: • RAVE = “Reconstruction (of vertices) in abstract versatile environments”; • The toolkit includes both vertex finding (a pattern recognition task a.k.a. track bundling) and vertex fitting (estimation of the vertex parameters and errors); • Synergy used: starting point was the old CMS software (ORCA) which has recently been refactored and ported to the new CMS framework (CMSSW); • Principal algorithmic assets are robustified reconstruction methods with estimators based on adaptive filters, thus downweighting the influence of outlier tracks; • RAVE is foreseen to stay source-code compatible with CMSSW, but thanks to its generic API may easily be embedded into other software environments. 2. Creation of a simple stand-alone framework (VERTIGO) for fast implemen- tation, debugging and analyzing of the core algorithms: • VERTIGO = “Vertex reconstruction tools and interfaces to generic objets”; • Framework tools available: Visialization, Histogramming, a Vertex Gun for generating artificial test events, an LCIO input event generator, and a Data Harvester & Seeder for flexible I/O. -

Strange Kind of Woman Hush Speed King The first known Purple tribute was recorded as early as 1972. An unknown, starving band named Thin Lizzy (which consisted of Bell, Downey & Lynott) were offered a lump sum of money to record some Deep Purple songs. (The album contains also a few non-DP tracks.) They did - with the help from two Irish guys. The album came out in early 1973. It wasn't a success. In February, Thin Lizzy had a top ten hit with a single of their own. Read more about it here. Discography of the Mainstream Label Mainstream was founded in 1964 by Bob Shad, and in its early history reissued material from Commodore Records and Time Records in addition to some new jazz material. The label released Big Brother & the Holding Company's first material in 1967, as well as The Amboy Dukes' first albums, whose guitarist, Ted Nugent, would become a successful solo artist in the 1970s. Shad died in 1985, and his daughter, Tamara Shad, licensed its back catalogue for reissues. Girl Scout Ceremonies These are ideas created and shared online and in other ways by other leaders. I have tweaked some to reflect changes in the Girl Scout Program, others will reflect more of the “old ways” and older language. Don’t feel like you need to use these verbatim. Take what works, and then modify it as you need to. Use these as ideas to create your own ceremonies. Think outside the box when it comes to supplies for your ceremonies. You don’t have to spend a bunch of money or have elaborate themes or props to give your girls and their families a meaningful experience. Also, don’t feel like you are tied to the category that someone placed these ceremonies into – just because a ceremony says it’s a “Bridging for Daisies to Brownies” doesn’t mean that’s the only way you can use the ideas. Make it work for you and your troop! Flag Ceremonies These are the basic Flag Ceremony commands. There are many versions & other commands that can be added. Do what you feel works for your group. These are just suggestions. We always have a caller & an even number of girls for the color guard. When raising the flag up a "real" pole (one with a rope & pulley system) it usually takes two girls to do the actual raising. Karib – Nordic Journal for Caribbean Studies, 3(1): 2, pp. 1–7, DOI: https://doi.org/10.16993/karib.36 RESEARCH ARTICLE The View Beyond Looking: Isaac Julien’s Frantz Fanon: Black Skin, White Mask Biko Agozino Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA 24061, US [email protected] This paper is a simulation of a court hearing in which Frantz Fanon is accused of different things by different authors while I attempt to present a case for the defence of Fanon, indicating that a careful reading of his work will show that he has no case to answer. The paper arose from a plenary talk that I presented at a conference on immigrants in Europe which included the premier of the film on Fanon directed by Isaac Julien. The paper has been updated to reflect some current debates since the original presentation. Thirty-six years after his death, I was thirty-six years old in 1997 when I had the honour and privilege of being invited to introduce the Italian premier of Frantz Fanon: Black Skin White Mask (Julien, 1996; Gordon, 1996).1 This is a fuller text of my presentation before an audience that was made up of mainly participants in an international conference. Who Is Fanon? Fanon was born in Martinique in 1925 where he received a typical French colonial education. As a young man, he enlisted in the Free French Army to fight against fascism and won a decoration for bravery. -

Fanon speaking in Accra in 1958 Fanon was not a pacifist, but the emphasis on his belief in violence – or ‘terrorism’, as his adversaries would say – has obscured the radical humanism that lies at the heart of his work. In her 1970 study, On Violence, addressed in part to Fanon’s student admirers, Hannah Arendt pointed out that both his followers and his detractors seemed to have read only the first chapter – also entitled ‘On Violence’ – of The Wretched of the Earth. There Fanon described how violence could serve as a ‘cleansing force’ for the colonised, liberating them not only from their colonial masters, but from their inferiority complex.
