ISLANDERS TO HOST CHARITY, “THE LAST GAME” TO BRING AWARENESS TO CLIMATE CHANGE

EAST MEADOW, NY (DATE, 2019) – The are partnering with United Nations Environmental Department to host a segment of The Last Game, a series of hockey games designed to raise awareness to the impact of climate change. The game will take place at 3 p.m., prior to the Islanders preseason game against the on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Originally scheduled to take place at in , this game will now be at NYCB Live, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Legendary Russian player and member of the , , spearheads the event and is a UN Environment Patron of the Polar Regions. Along with Fetisov, other Hockey Hall of Fame legends, United Nations and National Geographic Society top officials, NYC First Responders, the Manhattan Borough President and hundreds of youth hockey players will be in attendance at .

“We are excited to work with the New York Islanders in raising awareness for Climate Change,” Fetisov said. “It is extremely important that we take care of our planet, the most important resource in all our lives. Playing this game with such a tremendous group of distinguished guests in New York will make this our biggest event we’ve hosted in an effort to save the world we love.”

“Our environment and the importance of Climate Change are important topics that we cannot ignore,” Islanders President/ said. “To have the chance to support and help raise awareness for these efforts, while also working with Slava, makes this a fantastic event. We are proud to support and host The Last Game prior to our preseason game.”

In conjunction with the UN Climate Action Summit and Climate Week NYC 2019, a senior from the United Nations will drop the ceremonial puck.

UN Secretary General António Guterres and His Holiness Pope Francis are the honorary captains of The Last Game, a series of hockey games that will take place in over 30 countries that are threatened by climate change. The events from Azerbaijan to Argentina- from Singapore to Scandinavia are being organized by Fetisov in his capacity as UNESCO Champion of Sport, UN Environment Patron for Polar Regions and Special Olympics Global Ambassador.

The game will be followed by a meet-and-greet with the various distinguished guests, as well as an educational session where guests can speak with scientists, local citizens and national leaders to discuss the dangers caused by climate change and the best practices needed to combat it.
