  • Macos Big Sur (OS 11) What Works? Macos Big Sur (OS 11) What Works? Christopher Grossi - 2021-06-22 - 0 Comments - in Apple Macintosh Computers
Portal > Knowledgebase > Desktop Computing and Printing > Apple Macintosh Computers > macOS Big Sur (OS 11) What Works? macOS Big Sur (OS 11) What Works? Christopher Grossi - 2021-06-22 - 0 Comments - in Apple Macintosh Computers On Thursday, November 12, Apple released its newest operating system, macOS Big Sur (macOS 11). CIS is evaluating the final release of Big Sur for compatibility with Brown's computing environment and upgrading our systems and software where necessary. Although the "beta" version appeared to work well in Brown's computing environment, we do not yet recommend upgrading due to the need to update some software titles for compatibility with new Big Sur features. We will soon have a list of services that are validated against Big Sur on this page. Please check back frequently for details as our work continues. In conjunction with the release of Big Sur, Apple is now shipping three new Apple Silicon Mac models (MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13in, and Mac mini) to start their 2-year transition from Intel architecture. At this time, only the MacBook Air model has been completely transitioned from Intel to Apple Silicon (you can still purchase an Intel MacBook Pro 13in or Mac mini). Endpoint Engineering is awaiting delivery of examples so that we can validate our management framework and supported software, but we can provide some guidance at this time based on reports. In general, we can recommend any of these models as replacements for their Intel predecessors, provided that users are not dependent on Intel hardware-specific features (such as BootCamp or virtualizing Windows or x86-compiled Linux distributions), or requirements such as RAM capacity greater than 16GB, storage capacity greater than 2TB, or outputting video to more than one external display.

  • How to Take Advantage of Macos Big Sur Security Benefits
WHITE PAPER How to Take Advantage of macOS Big Sur Security Benefits Even the most benign update may include fixes to a series of critical security flaws that an attacker could leverage against the device. Once an OS release is available, it is common for malicious attackers to analyze the updates to identify any patched vulnerabilities and then immediately create attacks against those. Attackers are well aware that not everyone updates their devices immediately; be that due to time, distractions, or the need for organizations to first ensure that the latest update works well with the rest of their software stack. An OS release is fun, it’s exciting, but if you’re ill-prepared or your users start upgrading and cause things to break, it can turn into a hectic nightmare, quick. It’s this reasoning that drives IT admins and organizations to be constantly fine-tuning their OS update and roll out process often introducing artificial delays while waiting for vendor support. For the last nine years, Jamf offers same-day support for Apple’s operating system releases, allowing our customers to upgrade on their schedule, not ours. Apple OS Upgrades Guide Get e-book Simple macOS, iPadOS, iOS and tvOS upgrades for everyone When it comes to Mac security, Jamf Protect is designed for macOS from the ground up. It provides anti-virus functionality by preventing known Mac malware, detects malicious and suspicious activity and through application controls that restrict unwanted applications, minimizing your risk profile. As you roll out macOS 11 Big Sur, Jamf Protect continues to prevent Mac- specific attacks without the need to install a kernel extension.
