ARIA winner Peter Blakeley, out of the chapel and live in Canberra – one night only!

The National Film and Sound Archive of (NFSA) presents a one-night only session with ARIA award winner Peter Blakeley, as part of its 100 Seats series on Friday 20 November.

Blakeley enjoyed massive chart success and won the ARIA award for Single of the Year in 1990 for his hit ‘Crying in the Chapel’, from the album Harry’s Café De Wheels . He recently returned to Australia after more than two decades working in Los Angeles.

Peter Blakeley said: ‘I'm really excited to be back in Australia, performing for audiences in Canberra with my new show Songs from the Dime . I'm looking to take them on a journey through my creative process, and to recreate the characters and atmosphere of Downtown Los Angeles - where much of my song writing inspiration has come to life.’

100 Seats is a series of special, one-off sessions in which renowned performers explore their art through conversation and performance, in the intimacy of the NFSA Theatrette.

At 100 Seats , Peter Blakeley will perform tracks from his forthcoming album Songs from the Dime , as well as old favourites in an acoustic set. He will also talk about his career, influences and new musical direction.

Blakeley was the lead singer for the pop band The in the mid-1980s. He launched a solo career in 1987 with the album Vicious, and went on to have a massive hit in 1990 with ‘Crying in the Chapel’.
