He never missed a game in his entire 14-season career with the Chiefs from 1993 to 2006. A member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2000s, Shields was named to 12 straight Pro Bowls “It's an honor being named into the Hall of Fame, to having those 10 letters added to your name,” Shields shared during his Enshrinement speech in Canton’s Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in August. “But it takes more than just yourself, it takes a village of people. And with me, it was truly a village, because no one gets to the top by themselves. Someone had to push, prod and pull me to the next level, help me walk through the tough steps and I’ll be forever grateful.” A full schedule of the 2015 Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence presentations can be found at ProFootballHOF.com/HOF-Ring. 1967 APBA PRO FOOTBALL SET ROSTER The following players comprise the 1967 season APBA Pro Football Player Card Set. The regular starters at each position are listed first and should be used most frequently. Realistic use of the players below will generate statistical results remarkably similar to those from real life. IMPORTANT: When a Red "K" appears in the R-column as the result on any kind of running play from scrimmage or on any return, roll the dice again, refer to the K-column, and use the number there for the result. When a player has a "K" in his R-column, he can never be used for kicking or punting. If the symbol "F-K" or "F-P" appears on a players card, it means that you use the K or P column when he recovers a fumble. Players in bold are starters. If there is a difference between the player's card and the roster sheet, always use the card information. The number in ()s after the player name is the number of cards that the player has in this set. See below for a more detailed explanation of new symbols on the cards. • DENVER BRONCOS EDITION Denver Broncos Team History
TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE DENVER BRONCOS EDITION Denver Broncos Team History The Denver Broncos have been one of pro football’s biggest winners since the merger of the American and National Football Leagues in 1970. The Broncos’ on-the-fi eld success is more than matched by a spectacular attendance record of sellout crowds (except for strike-replacement games) every year since 1970. Denver’s annual sale of approximately 74,000 season tickets is backed by a waiting list in the tens of thousands. The Broncos now play in the new INVESCO Field at Mile High which opened in 2001, but for 41 seasons played on the same plot of ground on which the original AFL team performed in 1960. This, however, is the only similarity of Denver teams of yesteryear and today. The upstart AFL was the target of many jokes and jeers by the established National Football League in the early 1960s, but the Broncos were the most laughed-at of all. Bob Howsam, a successful minor league baseball owner who built Bears Stadium in the 1940s, was awarded an AFL charter franchise on August 14, 1959. Severely limited fi nancially, Howsam clothed his fi rst team in used uniforms from the defunct Copper Bowl in Tucson, Ariz. Making the uniforms particularly joke-worthy were the vertically-striped socks that completed the Broncos’ dress. Two years later, when Jack Faulkner took over as head coach and general manager, the socks were destroyed in a public burning ceremony. While Denver’s on-the-fi eld experience during the 10 years of the AFL was for the most part bleak, the Broncos did have some bright moments.

www.kansascity.com | 12/29/2011 | Derrick Johnson’s Pro Bowl selection marks turnaround 1/24/12 4:42 PM Back to web version Tuesday, Jan 24, 2012 Posted on Thu, Dec. 29, 2011 Derrick Johnson’s Pro Bowl selection marks turnaround By KENT BABB The Kansas City Star T wo years ago, Derrick Johnson was confused. Here he stood, at his locker at the end of his fifth NFL season, and talked about where his career might go — because with the Chiefs, it seemed to be going nowhere. “I haven’t lost trust yet,” he said in December 2009. “But it’s possible.” At the time, Johnson was a mostly disappointing former first-round pick who had been shuffled among several linebacker positions, primarily in an attempt to jump-start his vast potential. In 2009, Johnson had been shuffled right out of the lineup. Two years later, a challenge accepted and conquered, Johnson is now one of the Chiefs’ best — and, more important, most reliable — defenders and this week was selected to his first Pro Bowl. He is a sure tackler, a solid player in coverage, but the thing that has set Johnson apart these last two seasons, his best as a pro, was a growing familiarity of the Chiefs’ defense that bred confidence, leadership and success. Two seasons ago, Johnson was benched, in an effort for former coach Todd Haley to make a point. Johnson’s effort was lacking, even if he didn’t realize it, and one of the team’s most talented players was sent to the second- team defense.
